The # 877-833-5617 is a legitimate B of A Fraud Dept phone #. If you look up "fraud dept" on the bankofamerica.com website that phone number comes up for suspecting fraud or suspicious activity. As far as the emails go, some of those are phising emails trying to get information hence the Chase/B of A confusion. Best thing to do is call the #'s you know are legitimate and just make sure the bank has nothing to talk to you about, or check your online banking for alerts sent to verify. Sometimes the B of A # will ask for card#, ss# or acct# to find you in the system, as long as you are calling their # straight off the website, they already have your sensitive information and just need to pull up your account!

Well, this post made me paranoid so I contacted a different Bank of America number after getting an alert email with this phone number in it. The email was legitimate, though I didn't ask about the phone number. It never hurts to be paranoid in this case, though. For the record, I was never asked by Bank of America for my social security number for identity verification purposes, only my address and birthdate, as well as the amount of my last withdrawal. This has been standard with all my calls to Bank of America.

I got a call and voicemail from this number (I think, because I erased it) urging me to contact them at this number about suspicious activity in my account. THEY NEVER SAID BANK OF AMERICA (I listened twice), but when I went to WhoCallsMe I figured it was a scam. It so happened I went to my local BoA branch a few hours later because I had just gotten a $1,500 deposit I wanted to draw upon.

You're not going to believe me, but the ATM wouldn't process my transaction and printed me a note telling me TO CALL THIS SAME NUMBER, which I instantly recognized as the number in my voicemail.

As it turned out, there WAS suspicious activity in my account with two small, likely test withdrawals to see if the account data worked before the big hit later. Anyway, BoA personnel at my branch canceled my current card and gave me a temporary new one while HQ prepares a permanent one with my photo on it.

My temporary card worked just fine with Amazon tonight.

This is not a valid BofA phone number. Don't be stupid. Don't ever call a random ph# left on your machine or by email and give someone your ss# and cc#... Idiots.

    HI
I got the call today, It is a real BOA customer service #. I tripled checked. Either way, always call back the number on the back of your card,if you do decide to call that number, DO NOT GIVE ANY SENSITIVE INFORMATION. You just never know.

Got a call from 877-833-5617 to my cell claiming to be the fraud department of Bank of America and that our bank account had been compromised.  After calling the number, the message asked for my account number.  Seemed suspicious. Don't be deceived! We don't even have have an account with Bank of America.

received a call from "unknown caller" with a voicemail asking me to call 8778335617 about an urgent possible fraud case on "one of your accounts" with BoA. My accounts do not show any unusual activity.

I received a voicemail asking to call this number. I noticed it was considered suspicious as others here have said, but when I called directly to BoA (number on the back of my card) they referred me back to the same 8778335617 saying it was their ATM Customer Protection line. My online banking also indicated a fraud detection event and referred me to the same number, so it seems to be legit. But they also noted that you should always call the number on the back of the card first. This is what I did and was connected via transfer to the ATM Customer Protection dept. Seems they need to find a better way to make contact without arousing suspicions.

I got the call also,  unknow name and number on Caller ID. Asked me to call 877-833-561.  I gave them my card number,  he asked me my name and i only gave him my first name,  he told me my last name and then he asked for my DOB -  I told him he needed to tell me the last 4 transactions on my card.  I was put on hold for 30 seconds and he came back and had all of my transaction history.

It's not a scam.  I had 4 internet purchased i made today and used the ATM for $400.  They are only trying to verify that you are who you say you are and you are making the purchases.

    No Worries

Got an email to call this number as well.  I was skeptical.  However, if you are a BoA customer, open a new window and go to the BoA website and login.  Go to accounts overview, then go to alerts, not mail.  If it is legit the same information will be listed there that was in the email.  This number was listed in my alerts.  Only call after verification.

this is a legitimate number for BofA's fraud line.  i got an automated call from them and was asked to call a 0800 number which turned out to be their debt collectors - they said i needed to call 877 833 5617. so...yes, it's legitimate.  however, BofA confirmed there were no issues with my card and that it wasn't on hold (and they had no record of having sent me a voice message).  therefore, either BofA's automated dialer is randomly calling people, or someone is placing bogus calls on behalf of BofA.

    Unbelievable
Got an automated call stating there was an issue with my Bank of America debit and/or atm card to please call this number.  I called it... sounded like BOA, but it asked for my account number.. I don't have a BOA debit or atm card so i didn't give it to them... then I got a customer service rep who asked for my BOA account number to verify if there were any problems.  I DID NOT give her my info, I told her I didn't have a debit or ATM card and she apologized that it was a call made in error... from the looks of all the comments sure seems like a lot of errors.... Scams are out of control.. do not give your account numbers or social security numbers to anyone via email or phone if the call is FROM the caller...The shame of it all is there is not a whole lot we can do but comment on websites like this.... be smart...be suspicious of every call.

    Hi,
It's legit. I received the same email yesterday. I had transferred funds accidently into the wrong acccount. I thought i had money in my checking. I went to buy gas at the pump and it said go inside. Idid'nt think anything about it because that happens all the time and when I go inside it goes through. So i went inside the gas station and the attendant ran it as a debit and it was declined. He suggested we run it as a credit and that was declined as well. I drove home on fumes and immediatly checked my account and I was overdrawn because I'd deposited the money in the wrong account. I transferred it and thought that was the end of it. Then I got an email from BOFA saying due to suspicious activity they had put a block on my call. I called and got my card unblocked. It did make me nervous when the guy asked for my SSN (and in my case he asked for the whole thing).
The unblocked my card. Then today I got this voice message from an recording at this number saying I had to contact the fraud department. I didn't call that number, I called BOFA and asked them if it was legit. The lady I spoke with said the guy I talked to yesterday was because she could see my card had been blocked and after the call it was removed. She coudln't verify if this number was legit because she said they have so many numbers but she thought it was likely legit, just automated and that the system hadn't recognized I had already called and handled it.
I'm not going to call the number. I suggest, if you get a call from this number, to call your BOFA customer service number and handle it through them just to be safe.

I actually just received a phone call from that number. I gave my information and immediately called the Bank of America number on the back of my card. The number IS associated with BOA's fraud department.
