I recieved an automated message on my voice mail to call them at 877-833-5617. When I called they asked for my account number. Being at work, I did not have my account number with me. She then asked for my ss number. At that point, I told her I would just go the local branch and handle it in person. She tryed to tell me they may not be able to help me. What a crock! If you don't fell you should give this information over the phone, DON'T! I ALWAYS handle these issues IN PERSON.

I received a text, saying that my card had been deactivated. Then I received an automated phone message thanking me for notifying Bank of America that I would be traveling. When I called in the number provided, which sounded like the official Bank of America Fraud Department, they asked for my account number, which I provided. I was then asked for my driver's license number, at which point I grew suspicious, had my husband google the numer, and promptly hung up.

Just received a call from 1-877-833-5617...said it was regarding a potential fraud on one of my accounts. The caller ID said "unknown caller" . Sounded fishy to me so I decided to look up this number and guess what I found?!  I will also call Bank of America to let them know what's going on.

I got a call from this company asking for me to call them "immediately" to help them mitigate some fraud related activity. The name of the company was cut off (of course) on the recording, and something just smelled fishy. I see I was right.

This is, in fact, Bank of America's bank card fraud number. I first called the number on the back of my bank card and verified the number. The people at the regular call center don't have the fraud info- but they'll give you the same number.

Yep, I have had three calls at all hours of the day and night -  it asks for your card number when calling  I stopped by Bank of America and  they stated that they NEVER ask for your  Account number as they already have it.    this phone number is from a skype line ---  it is NOT legitimate.
Good luck getting them to stop calling -  as it will pop up on your phone as unavailable.

Got a phone call with UNAVAILABLE on the caller ID, I didn't answer. I received a voice mail stating that my Bank of America account had been a victim of fraud and I needed to call 877-833-5617. I called the number and they wanted to varify my account and began by asking for my debit card number, This threw up a Red Flag, I went on line and their are no alerts on my account, so I googled the number,It is a fraud.

I received an email from BofA stating that my account had been flagged for irregular account activity with a link and this phone number.  I initially suspected it was a phishing scam and logged in manually to my B of A account.

Click on Accounts -> Alerts -> Alerts History

sure enough, this same message was shown on my BofA account alerts history with this same phone number to call.  I called the number and went through the process, which did include typing in my debit card number.  They had readily available information for several recent transactions at different sites, and I cleared the matter up.

Looking back at the email I noticed that it actually stated how to verify the alert on their website right in it.

I'm guessing that some people getting these alerts are BofA customers getting legit alerts from the Bank.  Others are probably getting phishing emails where the creator has copied an actual alert and modified the website link but left the phone number to BofA real fraud hotline.

Either way the best thing to do is log in manually and check your alert history.

    These People are IDIOTS.
Go to the Bank of America Site.
    Search the Number.
    It is on their Website.
Everyone Else is Lying and Works for Chase and is Trying to Make Bank of America Look bad or Something or maybe the Person Trying to use your card is trying to keep you from reporting it...

I had Illegal Activity, I received the email, I googled it (which got me more confused), I searched on Bank of Americas Site and they List this Number as Theirs. They never asked for a social security number.
If you know your on the Companies Website (Not one you clicked on from an email) then the Information is good. Everything is just the Internet... Un-Reliable Un-Confirmed information...

This is a legitimate Bank of America number for their fraud department. 10/24/11

I received the card from this number, and was suspicious also, especially while googling the number while on line with them, and reading the comments on this site.

I told the caller that I was reluctant to provide my personal information, they advised me to call the number on the back of my debit card immediately, and there was INDEED a legitimate fraud concern with my card. B of A says it is always a good idea not to disclose your password or social security number over the telephone, if you feel unsure of the caller, and if the initial call gets you to contact their customer service department where you can securely extract the reason for the call, all the better.

Bank of America's advice: Don't give out your info, thank the caller for the update, and contact Bank of America directly to verify.

    Not an idiot
OK, for those of you who still thinks this number is a scam.

Go the Bank of America website. Log in. On the upper right area of the screen you should look for a box called Communication Center. Under the box there should be two options: 'mail' and 'alerts'

Click on alerts. Look for "Irregular Debit Card Activity". Click on "show details". It should inform you about your situation and tell you to call 1.877.833.5617.

This number is legitimate. I don't know if Chase still uses this number, but if both Bank of America and Chase use the same number then they this number is most likely an outsource service for fraud protection.

Don't worry. It is a legit. Check it out for yourself.
