- regent12This is a legit Bank of America number, from the ATM debit customer protection dept. After receiving a message asking me to call this number, I called the regular BofA customer service number, who verified that this number is correct/legit... and they transferred me directly.
I admit that it was odd to have to give them my info (no social sec # requested)... but the rep did have access to all my recent charges, and needed to verify some of them, since I had been traveling.- Caller: Bank of America
- TedGot an e-mail from bank of america that a hold ws put on my atm card. I checked the number they wanted m to call here and got spooked. So I called the number printed on my ATM card to get customer service - it turned out that the e-mail was legit.
If you are are at all worried - you should call the bank number printed on your atm card or you statement.- Caller: Bank of America
- HeatherReceived the call on my phone. Caller ID was "UNKNOWN". I checked my account online and saw the number matched. In talking with the representative, I did discover that there were fraudulent charges being made to my account. I was also told that this number has been given out in a number of email phishing scams. So legitimate number sometimes used illegitimately. If an email is received, call BofA. They will ask for it to be forwarded to them.
- Caller: Bank of America
- AlexThis number is 100% legitimate. It's listed on their website as

The person that took my call explained to me that they flag suspicious purchases as fraud. For example, if I shop at Walmart once a week it's nothing unusual, but if I order off of a website I've never purchased anything from before, they flag this as fraud and they will call you as UNKNOWN, but leave a voicemail with 877-833-5617. I did not have to give my social security at all by the way.
I think it's a really great feature. I appreciate them calling me for their concern!- Caller: Bank of America
- CatherineI have been receiving calls now almost every day from this number from the fraud department from Bank of America..... its getting rather annoying. I can't ignore it due to being military spouse and my other half being deployed. I risk missing his calls.
- Caller: Bank of America
- nobodysfoolI received a garbled messing on my cell phone regarding fradulent activity on my card.....gues what I do not deal with Bank of America.....I locally source every thing and I know my banker by name....this is just a phising scam....always google the number. Never cash the $24,000 dollar check that comes to you in the mail. Trust but verify and never discuss your butt or your bank account in public or over the phone.....
- none replies to kAcyually, i work for boa and it IS official still.

AR72768/DD6A66 - BJ replies to DanielI have received two calls but have not picked up and they left the message to call back @ the 1-877-833-5617 number. Today I called the number and it is BOA, but I do not have a problem with my account. The BOA rep said this a ploy for them to get your info. They will keep calling until someone picks up and tell you that your account has been put on hold and than attempt to get information from you. Do not give them any information. Call BOA to verify directly.
- JoaquinThe message above is exactly correct. Do NOT provide any information to any alleged B of A employee who reaches you by phone. Hang up and call a known good B of A number. The best one is the one on the back of your ATM/Debit card.
- meechie| 1 replySOLVED! Well... at least the mystery about the number is. Somehow they've rigged it so that if you call the number from a cell phone without first dialing 1, there's a recorded message instructing you to press * to get a text message. Luckily my phone people block added charge texts so they didn't get me.
However, when you dial 1 + the number you in fact get a legitimate BofA automated service. And that, my friends, is how one number can be verified as both legit and fraud at once.
I received the email regarding illegal activity on my card. I reloaded my browser and logged on the BofA site, found that number, called. I did dial in my debit card # and last four digits. I dealt strictly with an automated system. They asked me to verify my last three charges, all were mine. During normal business hours there's probably a live operator waiting to lift your identity. It's nearly midnight right now.
The only question I have is why hasn't BofA been made aware of this and put an end to it? - Remmy replies to meechieYes the 877 833 5617 Number is a legit ATM Customer Protection Number at Bank of America.
NO it is not legitimate in the way "alert" messages are being communicated whether via E-mail, phone message or text. I spoke to a customer service rep at BOA and he indicated to me that what is going on is an "app" that he referred to as "SPOOFING" where if the number when "redialed" or "unblocked" from cell phone it will be redirected to an unpublished number and to the theives that want your info.
It gets complicated he said. If you get a message like that call customer service or go on line and check for any irregular activity. Never punch in your entire SS# or acct info. Chase and Wels Fargo are having the same issue with their Number as well. - Katherine NussbergerI just received a call tonight at 5:06 p.m. voice recording saying that it was from Bank of America, and that I was being accused of commiting fraud on my acccount. it said to call 1-800-831-5617 immediately to settle the matter. I freaked and tried to call the number but it would not go through, it kept saying it could not be completed as dialed. Help, I am really freaked out, and my bank is closed until Monday.
- Caller: Said it was Bank of America
- red806I'm receiving automated calls from this number about "fraud on my account". I also received email notices about a week before the calls started from BOA stating that there was questionable activity on my account and to call them. These emails look just like the standard BOA emails that are sent when I have transaction activity online.
HOWEVER, the account that the email referenced was CLOSED seven years ago. I don't know where these people are getting the info, but my current BOA account is fine and I'm not calling these scammers back. - Jennifer McCuneI received an email stating that there had been a hold placed on my acct due to possible fraudulent charges, and that I needed to call a number. When I logged into my bank acct, there were no fraudulent charges, and there were also no alerts for me. When I called the number, it was an automated system that asked me to enter my credit card number. I hung up. BofA doesn't ask for that.
- Caller: "Bank of America"
- AlexGot the email alert today. The number IS valid. You DO have to put in your debit card number, and give your full SSN. They back up their validity later with a couple of clever security verification questions, and then review a few questionable charges.
A red flag was put on my account for a few 'spur of the moment' internet service purchases. One of which had no charge, but was an official transaction.
My call started automated, but ended with an out-sourced representative that actually didn't sound like a robot with the use of the word 'jittery'.- Caller: Bank of America
- mrbuns01I got a phone message from 877-833-5617 that it was a call from Bank of America and that there was a possible fraudulent use of my ATM card. I checked the fraud number from BofA and it was not the one from the phone message.
- Caller: Bank of America (supposedly)
- PJGot an automated call from 877 833-5617 claiming to be BofA "ATM division".
- SteveI received the recorded call on my cell phone. I didn't trust it, so I called the number on the back of my BoA ATM card and asked them to transfer me to the fraud department.
The number is legit and I did have fraud on my card. - BrianI got the email too. I logged on to my BoA account and looked at the alert history (not the mail link) and the exact email+phone# was in the alert on BoA's website.
