- MWI just got an email from "Bank of America" claiming that there was Irregular Debit Card activity on my account. Somehow they do have the last 4 digits of my account correct, so that scares me. I figured it was a scam because it said the last time I checked my online banking was 2 years ago. If anyone knows how they got the last 4 digits of my account, please email me turtlesoup22 at gmail dot com
Thanks! - MWNever mind about my last message. It is legit.
- LindseyI didn't receive a call from this number, but I did receive an e-mail from "Bank of America" about fraudulent activity on my account. It took my to check my account (with link included, of course) and then call this number to verify or deny the charge. I figured it was actually a fraudulent e-mail, so I opened a new browser and went to the BoA Web site myself. All charges were accurate. I went to the list of phone numbers, and this one was nowhere to be found. All BoA phone numbers were 800 numbers. If you go to the Web site link in the e-mail, I'm sure it's a phishing site that will have this 877 number listed. I suggest that if anyone gets and e-mail or a call like this, report it to Bank of America, either at their correct phone number or forward the e-mail to their abuse account. Don't do anything stupid and give your account or personal information over the phone or click the link in the e-mail!

- LJI received the same email, but there was some irregular activity on my account and I was expecting a call from BoA not an email because it happens when I use my card alot, which I don't because BoA is not my primary account. To be on the safe side, I generally use the number on the back of my card to clear up the issues. Better to be safe than sorry!
- doug from MA..BofA customerWhile my wife is on travel leaving me to deal w/home-phone backlash,
(she did the "travel notification" thing but it didnt seem to help)
I dont even think my wife has used her debit/VISA card on this trip when (day1)
I quickly start getting various phone messages
OR automated calls I picked up on the spot;
(SOME of which were clear on what acct/card had issues,
SOME of which are so vague you do think "scammer" ! )
what bemoans me is it seems BofA may be "trying to help from all over the place",
a mini rash of msgs like my bank/cardcompany's worried about suspicious activity.
I agree the phone message could be much less vague, BUT,
It seems that THIS number is...thus, I guess MY calls are.... OK.
First approach might be: start a NEW browser to YOUR bank/accountsites, e,g,
THEN, e.g. From a "keyword: Travel" search on bankofamerica.com, I see
To prevent an interruption in ATM or Debit Card access you must call the telephone number on the back of your card to have an agent place a travel flag on your account. Your ATM Card or Debit Card must have a primary checking account linked to it in order to have no interruption in service while traveling internationally.
Once the travel flag has been placed, if you encounter any issues, please contact us toll free at 1.877.833.5617 or internationally by calling collect 1.602.597.2395.- Caller: Bank of America Card Services
- Ed replies to kI work for boa in the atm/debit customer protection (Fraud) dept. this is the number to reach the fraud dept, you may have recieved the call due to a typo on another person's acct when they entered their phone number.
- NicoleI got the irregular account activity email, called, and they asked for my full debit card number. I was concerned and did not give my number- but called the actual bofa number and they verified that that IS the debit card fraud number and they transferred me. If you are concerned just call bofa at (800)432-1000
and they will transfer you. THIS IS LEGIT.- Caller: BOFA
- MelissaI got the debit card fraud email this morning and called BofA's regular listed 800-622-8731. They confirmed that 1.877.833.5617 is the number for BofA debit card fraud. The way they go about the notification though is extremely suspicious!
- Caller: BofA
- LarryGot e-mail. Called number on back of card.
E-mail, /in my case/, was legit.
Just adding my data point.- Caller: Bank of America
- BJIt IS a legit number. As another poster mentioned, the initial e-mail I received alerting me of suspicious activity WAS listed in my alerts history on the B of A website. Just really, really fishy... I had done nothing out of the ordinary- groceries, bought a paperback, breakfast at a cafe.
- oldmanjenkinsIt's legitimate but poor implementation. I called directly to BoA 1800-299-2265. You can also check you online account and check under alerts. I was able to confirm the email.

- Doctor XThis is a legitimate BofA Fraud number. I confirmed it with BofA--and you can see others have as well.
MOST people probably want to know if a number is legitimate. If unsure, simply call your local BofA for your piece of mind. The rest deals with phishing so stop reading if not interested.
Phishing e-mails will list this phone number and links to anything else that will appear "legitimate." Thestandard, true, bona fide BofA e-mail alert will ask you to log into your account. It will not actually provide the link to your account. You need to find it yourself. That is a critical difference.
You can check the header: http://www.iptrackeronline.com/email-header-analysis.php If it comes from Unterland, guess what! It be a phish e-mail :D
The Phish will provide a link they hope you click . . . that goes to Barboobustan . . . and that is the phish.
If you are uncertain, you may certainly call your regular BofA number. This number is meant to expedite a call to get you to a human who can actually go over your account with you and remove a hold.
If you find a Phish, please report to http://toolbar.netcraft.com/report_url and PhishTank: http://www.phishtank.com/add_web_phish.php
This will help protect potential victims.- Caller: Bank of America
- ShariThis number is legit. If you look at the contact numbers on the BoA website, you will see that this is the number for the fraud department. If you call the # on your card, they will connect you before a regular rep will even speak to you.
It pays to be careful... but check the website first.- Caller: Bank of America
- RussellI got a similar email, so I called the number. Changed my mind, hung up, and called the regular bank of america number. The regular number's automated system notified me of the same thing in the email and connected me back to what sounded like the number I called 877-833-5617. They canceled my debit card and sent me another which I confirmed they did via the website.

- JFThis DID turn out to be a legitimate number from BOA's Fraud department. I got a call from someone at this number claiming to be from BOA fraud department. They wanted to check a couple of transactions. They asked for my email address for confirmation, which I did give to them. They then proceeded to ask about 2 transactions which I had made, and one which I had not. They said they would cancel my card, but I wanted to check with my husband first to see if he had made the unknown charge. They put a hold on my card and gave me this same phone number to call them back at.
I googled the number and saw all of these fraudlent notices, so I went to my online banking site where I saw the fraudulent charge they were talking about, so I looked up BOA's real 1-800 number online, talked to customer service, found out a hold had been put on my card. They transferred me over to fraudulent services where they confirmed someone had talked to me, and my card had been put on hold until I called back. I asked about this number that I had been given, and he confirmed that that was their direct line. I also mentioned about finding all the posts on line saying this number was listed as fraudulent and he confirmed that a lot of people had been using their number for fraudulent scams.
So, in this case, I am glad that I followed up, as someone on the otherside of the country somehow got ahold of my debit card number and had tried to use it, but I am very thankful that BOA caught it so fast before any real damage could be done.
So, in summary, this is BOA's actual fraud line direct number, but other people are using it for scams, so be careful.- Caller: Bank of America Fraud Department
- JasonThis is a legit number for Bank of America. If you get an email alerting you of suspicious activity on your account you can log in to online banking, click on the alerts link and then the history link and it will show if they sent you an alert email
- Caller: Bank of America
- DanielAgreed - it is legit, but call BofA to confirm for yourself if you aren't comfortable utilizing forum-found info! Use the number on the back of your card. ATM customer fraud number. It is not found on their website or easily searchable.
- Jay GatsbyEven today, this very scam continues.
They knew my name, email address (the one I use for BoA, not the one I used to signup for Facebook Marketing), last 4 of my card, but of course Bank of America doesn't care about you or your account as far as justifying several (poorly automated) calls, texts and an email goes. Oh they got my phone number, too! Ugh.
Just so everyone knows, I started gettings emails, texts and calls from these "people" within 12 hours of entering my card info for Facebook Marketing. For what it's worth, I used a Mac, so I doubt there was any keylogging malware or anything to that effect, given Facebook is hacked all the time, and given that their page for signing up was not secured with SSL or anything of the sort, I would say Facebook is responsible for these scamming loons' obtaining my bank info... Naturally Facebook hasn't responded to my email, and why would they?
Anyway, the text came from 73733 and the calls came from 315-724-4022 which traces to New York.
What a world when giant companies don't care and individuals try to make money the easy way by scamming. It's a wonder we can tell the difference between the legal scammers and the illegal ones. If you didn't catch on to that, the "legal scammers" are Facebook and Bank of America, illegal scammers are obviously...the illegal scammers @ lovely 877-833-5617.
Good luck and remember, Facebook doesn't care if they'r responsible for things like this, so be wary if you MUST use them for things like advertising...- Caller: "Bank of America"

- Jay GatsbyCorrection, I guess the email is legit, but throughout the day I received calls and texts from the numbers mentioned above.. It's confusing for sure, and I agree that to be safe you should just call the number on the back of your card.
- Jay GatsbyI was looking through the other pages of comments here... It seems to me like these scammers are intermittenly intercepting people's calls to BoA's Fraud department, so sometimes calling the number brings you to BoA, and sometimes it's intercepted somehow and goes to phishers.
In my case I see an alert in my BoA Alerts section confirming some weird activity with my account, but I don't see any charges... And then I'm getting calls and texts from phishers... It's a weird situation.
So again, it seems the best way to handle this is to call the number on the back of your card and get transferred to the Fraud department, at least that way the call can't be intercepted, which I don't know as the case, but that's what it seems like- the comments here are alternating between "it's a scam!" and "you fool! It's legit!".
