DO NOT PICK UP THIS PHONE CALL! It's a SCAM!!  DO NOT DO NOT PICK IT UP! JUST CONTINUE TO HANG UP!  inmates are beginning to use this as a scam to use your number to make collect calls.

It's a prepaid thing for inmates...they just prepay on it and call people they know. It's not a big deal and you don't get charged for the calls. Maybe the calls will stop if you accept once and tell em they got a wrong number...Worth a shot if it's such a headache?

Received a call last night at 4:30 AM. Not so happy about it. I did not answer and they did not leave a message. Thanks for all the previous information on who this might be. The only people I know in jail work there and they certainly wouldn't be calling from that number, nor at that insane hour.

Keep getting annoying phone calls from this 1-888-288-9879 number. Most of the time it is at the same time of each day. They keep asking for a guy named Pablo Rocha. Looked him up and he's an attorney in the Austin, TX area who specializes in immigration law. I've been getting these calls on-and-off for over a year now. I have no idea how the heck they got my number, but it sure does bother the crap out of me.

I live in Texas and I received two calls this morning. I let my answering machine pickup and heard an automated voice on the other end. Basically, it "WAS" a collect phone call.  Normally, a collect call would have a live operator and will ask you if you will accept a call (from someone you know).  You would actually hear that person's voice.  I was asked if I wanted to know how much the collect call would cost, before even knowing who was calling me.  The calling menu did ask if I wanted to "BLOCK" future calls.  I immediately thought the call was a telephone scam. Also, I don't know anyone who is in prison.  I do know those collect calls are very expensive--$15 just to say, "I'll accept the charges."  Plus, it's about $26 per each block of 5 minutes.

re: Kris who finds it hard to believe we don't know anyone in jail...you're right, I cannot be 100% sure that there isn't someone in jail somewhere that I might have a passing acquaintance.

Let's put it this way: There is no one I know  in prison that I want to have anything to do with, nor would I accept their call under any circumstance. For all I care, they can stick their phone up their ....

Don't be fooled - It's a SCAM. If they ask you to transfer their call, REFUSE. They will continue to make phone calls, courtesy of you,  often long distance.

When I received calls like this, I reported them to "611", which is your land line or cell phone customer service - in the event some shmuck attempted to charge my phone line for calls, I was on record with the phone company that these calls were not authorized, and any charges were null and void.I also recorded the spanish language calls to play to the operator - I kept getting calls from a "Jorge, an inmate at the county jail".

I have had about 5 calls from this number, the last two this evening within 10 min. of each other. Which led me to this site. I also contacted my cousin's wife who works for my cell phone company. She suggests that if you get a call from this number, contact your customer support, from your cell phone company, and they can block the number from your phone. She also believes it may be fraud, and will be looking into this tomorrow. I hope this is a solution to an annoying problem.
