I got calls from this number, too. They might be trying to use your number to make third-party calls. Watch your phone bill. You can call the phone company and have them disable this feature.

    wud u call me
It may not be inmates. It may a computerized auto dial program. The reason I believe this is because the operator is a digital voice and the supposed inmate has the same tone and speech pattern every time. PCS makes the money if you mistakeningly accept the call. Moreover, these calls could be coming from other countries. Check your phone bill every month for that phone number. PCS needs to step up help us out. Otherwise, every person working for PCS is a thief.

888-288-9879 OR THE *72 Prison Scam

THIS WAS TAKEN FROM THE VERIZON WEBSITE:

How it works: You receive a call from an operator saying there is an inmate from a correctional facility who needs you to accept a collect call and the associated charges. Once you accept the call, the caller convinces you to hang up your phone, dial in *72 and another phone number. * 72 is the code used to forward your incoming calls to another number, if you have call forwarding service or if it's available on a per-use basis in your local exchange. If you do this, the inmate will then make additional collect calls to your number, but the calls will be forwarded to someone the inmate knows at the number where you forwarded the calls. That person accepts the charges, but they are billed to you. Often you don't realize this has happened until you notice your phone not ringing or you receive your bill with numerous unexpected charges.

How to protect yourself: Never accept collect calls unless you are absolutely sure you know the person calling. Never activate call forwarding unless you need to do it for your own reasons and to a number you know.

I got a cll from this # last night ( I wasn't home to receive it, but my adult son was and it asked if I would accept a collect phone call from this #. They did use my other son's name, but the 1st son thinking it was a scam hung up. Now I can't get in touch with #2 son. I don't know what to do!

Call asked my young daughter to press a number to "accept" a call; clearly it's intended to add charges to phone bill, and then collect from provider.

    annoyed and angry
I have received multpile calls from this number. Messages saying inmate from IDOC named Jimmy trying to make a collect call. I know there have been similar scams in the past. I tried to even answer the call and press7 as it says to block number. Did not work! Tired and pissed as H-LL. It is harassing at a rate of four to ten calls a day! I am investigating it and have reported to my phone compant and the FCC, as well as the BBB.

PCS is phone service for prisoners in state and local jails/prisons.

I got one of these a day for 3-4 days till I had enough.

Call 888-288-9879 on the phone you want blocked, wait thru the prompts, confirm the phone,  say no toa dding money to your account ot getting a balance. They will transfer you to a person after a while. They will confirm account ( your phone number again). Explain that your  being harrassed and what the calls stopped. They will ask what state or facility. They assume you have a relationship with some  person in prison and that's why the person in prison has your number. I had to explain that I didn't know anyone in prison, however I was in X state. They said they would block calls to my number from  county prison in X.  I asked if I could ALL prisons blocked, and they said sure. (It's my work phone, if my friends and family call from prison, it will be on personal cell phone anyway.)
