- TomCall received from this phone number on Sunday afternoon representing Hughes Federal Credit Union (HFCU). I called HFCU direct and they confirmed that Falcon is their security department. Therefore, I have determined this is legitimate. They were inquiring on a "routine" check. HFCU suggested that usage of my card at a gas station and grocery store on same day (maybe too close together) suggests fraud. I confirmed charges and the release was given to my card.
- Caller: Falcon
- sooznThis is a legit call! The was from the fraud department related to my credit credit union's VISA. They were verifying some recent charges to my account. I didn not pick up, so they left a voice mail message and a case number.
This is not your bank, and they should not ask you for an account number--they already have it. They will ask for the phone number on your account and verify your birthday and will have knowledge of the most recent charges to your account. - avabear replies to scottoThis is a scam. It happened to me 3 years ago. They say they are Credit Union security and when they ask for your SS number they can track and get your account number. Then they start draining your account. My 85 year old mother just called me this morning and told me it happened too her. Don't fall for it. Never give out your pin numbers or account numbers. Call your local Credit Union and give them the number you were called from. This is serious stuff. Idenity thieft!
- MargaretThe number is legitimate, but we should resist being trained to accept phishing calls. What it's *really* about is lowering the cost of fraud verification. I commend the questioning and wary people on this forum. For the most part, nothing happens if you ignore the call or decline to provide the info. I've told my credit union that I expect to be notified of a problem or concern by US Mail on their letterhead, or by verifiable email, at which time I will call their main office back. If THEY then want to forward me to this system after I call they can. But I am NOT going to just give out info because someone calls me and asks for it. Period.
So good job all you careful folks! Here's a link to another perspective:

http://guido.appenzeller.net/wordpress/2009/0 ... -to-be-phished/ - RE replies to dcDumb ass, Go ahead, give them all your information. Don't forget your mothers maiden name....
DUMB ASS!!! It's nothing more than internet tracking, they are tracking your internet purchases, which is very easy to do, and because your info from the bank is scrambled they can't get access to all of the information that they need to empty your account, so that's the reason for the phone call.. So DO NOT GIVE OUT ANYTHING OVER THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that I still have to say that in today's times... What is wrong with you people????????????? WAKE UP - john replies to Ron Frakeslol you are a true princess!
- Jimbo13I got a call this morning from VISA/MASTER Fraud department (on behalf of my credit union) and the said there were suspicious charges on my account. One was 68 cents @ 6:30 am this morning via internet. They called it "PHISHING". Then the perpetrator will see if that charge goes thru and then hit you again with large charge. When they call you they will NOT ask for any of your identification items (SSN, CC number, etc) . All this man gave me was the last 4 digits of the card and mentioned my wife's name (because we have 2 cards). I thought it was an awesome service. Canceled cards immediately. I did call my CU to verify and was filled in on the great system they have @ catching fraud. I never thought they catch a bad charge of 68 cents!!
- Caller: VISA/MASTER FRAUD DEPT?
- visa customerthis company just called me on, and stopped charges for $1,800 to a company in kuwait. of course the info was all entered by hand. completely legit, better follow up!
- Quad CitianThis is a legit phone call. The person let me know that someone attempted to use my card four times in Florida at the same time I'm living in Iowa. There is no possible way I could have scanned my card in Florida and Iowa in the same day (unless I took a flight, which was impossible). The person who had my card number probably was disappointed when they find out they can't use it anymore. The company has canceled my card and will be issuing a new one really soon.
- Caller: PSCU Fraud Services
- SwanyThis number is legit as many of the other statements say; they monitor credit card fraud
- JakeMI received a mysterious call in the evening from someone who failed to identify themselves. They only indicated that they were doing a security check on my mc, that I need to call back, gave me a case number, and said they might interrupt my service if I didnt call them back.
I called my cu the next day and they had no idea what I was talking about. There were no notations on my account and I was told they usually dont make phone calls re: cc.- Caller: ????
- MelI was contacted on a Saturday by "Patricia" who left a message stating that she was calling on behalf of my credit union to conduct a routine security check. I needed to contact one of their agents to prevent an interruption in service. What was disconcerting was that they had my name and also the name of my credit union. They also called on my cell phone which is not a "known" number.
I just called my credit union, and the teller confirmed that this was indeed a "phishing scam". I provided the information to her so hopefully others will be notified before it becomes an issue. - v7224Call from "Catherine" doing a "routine security check" on behalf of your bankcard and VISA debit card . . . to ensure 'uninterrupted service' call back and reference [a certain claim #]. Any representative can assist you."
- Caller: Did not give a company name.
- RonThey called today PFCU Security. They knew enough already about charges on my card made today that I was sure they are legit. They infomred me of 4 charges that I had no idea had happened today as well. Closed the card out and will send another. Glad thay are watching. Second time in three years this has happened. Only use card at aviation or other work related purchases, so is a limited area where this is happening. Suspect some online purchases for aircraft parts may have security issues...
- Caller: PFCU
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- 49erfa13Its a number for the security dept for my credit union. They had a question about my purchases from today. They had to verify with me about them to determine fraud or not.
- JennyGirl replies to rbI received a call from 888-918-7313 - they are legitimate! Security/fraud protection for my credit union bank (PSECU). I was not sure about them so while on the phone I logged into my account online and saw purchases posted for several hundred dollars that I didn't make and that were made out of state. Really glad I called back - they canceled my card number immediately and reported the purchases as fraudulent. I then called my bank to confirm and get new cards.
- TammieA company called Falcon wanting to verify "suspicious" charges on my debit card. Like others have said I called my Credit Union first to verify the number, and they said yes it is the number of the company they use. They called both my cell AND my work number. Thing is they questioned a charge for gas at Costco, the same place I get gas EVERY week. Of course with the gas prices my usual $30 -$40 dollar charge was closer to $50, so maybe that tipped them off. They did not ask me for any account info. and named off charges I had just recently made. So legit.
- Caller: Falcon
- DeanCaller represented my credit union. I made a large online purchase last night and they were calling to verify activity. Didn't ask for account numbers, etc. Only the phone number on my account and birth date. No scam-type information. No worries. They are legit and I am glad they are watching for unusual activity.
- Caller: KSFCU Fraud Depat
- MaryEllenI called the number on the back of my credit card, and the woman at my credit union told me the number was legitimate and transferred me to the dept. that handles fraud. They just wanted to check out a couple transactions I made--they didn't think they were legitimate, but they were. So they made a note that everything was fine. No big deal.
