Yeah she called me too about an account that myself and my husband cancelled back in 2004 well within the time period for cancellation. Her name is Michelle Smit.

I spent the last couple hours trying to google, reverse look up the phone number and putting the name it self into canada 411 and I didnt get anywhere there is no listing for a Steven Walter Law Firm. I did however find out that the place that Michelle is calling from is located between king st w and main st west on dundurn st it didnt give me an address but if Steven Walter Law Firm does exist then maybe he will have a sign out front.

This woman will not stop calling my house about an account I cancelled 30 days before my contract ended. This was back in 2005 aswell.... I do not understand why is is calling now and why she is cherging a huge amount of money for no reason. Apparently if I do not have my registration court she is taking me to court...

It's a collection agency, not a very reputable one. Seems like this womans job is simply to milk out past Premier clients.... Hmmmmmm.

It is a scam. Some woman claiming to be ‘Michelle Smit’ from the ‘law office’ of ‘Stephen/Steven Walters’ left four sets of harassing voice mail messages for our home telephone number over a five week period. We never spoke with her, but her voice mail message was always the same – using an intimidating tone to threaten to process a ‘claim’ against us if we did not return her call. However, there was no need to return her phone calls because she never identified her client on our voicemail, she never stated what the ambiguous claim was about (hey, I too want to make a claim against all of you here), she sounded like an over-aggressive tele-marketer (harassing us to the point I wanted to report her to the police), and she demanded that we call her (it would have been an  expensive long distance phone call far away from our city jurisdiction). By her fifth phone call she sounded pathetic that we did not return her calls and accused us of lacking courtesy! (If you accidentally speak with this woman, make sure you tape record what she says and tell her you are taping her).

After the fourth call, we kept forwarded all the four sets of harassing voicemail messages, which we kept, to a lawyer friend who happens to perform commercial collection work. His law firm called Michelle Smit’s number and asked her to return their call. They wanted to check whether she is legit. She never called them back, and stopped calling our number! Next, the law firm checked the list of Ontario lawyers and contacted lawyers named Stephen or Steve Walters in Ontario [Mississauga, (905) 826-0651; Oakville, (905) 825-5960; and Toronto, (416) 366-6060]. None of them had heard of a Michelle Smit and said she did not represent them. Our lawyer friend said if Michelle Smit claims to represent Stephen/Steven Walters law firm, then she must work from that law firm and there must be a lawyer in that office, otherwise she is misrepresenting herself among other issues.

Here is proof that there is no lawyer named Stephen/Steven Walters in the Hamilton area.

Michelle Smit is not allowed to contact you yet, Scam Buster. It appears Smit violated Ontario law and regulations if she called you before first sending you written notice of the name of the creditor (Premier Fitness, Mademoiselle Curzon, Regency), the balance owing, the name of the collection agency, and its authority to demand payment. Looks like she failed to even send you a first notice, or a follow up demand for payment.

Michelle Smit is giving false and misleading information on the name of her agency whenever she identifies herself as 'Michelle Smit calling from Stephen Walters law office (or law firm)'. Her notices give her agency name as  Stephen Walters Professional Corporation or Stephen Walters Corporation. Even this may be a lie (try to Google these names and check yellowpages.ca and whitepages.ca, it does not exist) and her real company name may be something else. Do not be surprised if her real name is something else.

Smit cannot claim to call from a 'law office' or 'law firm' if no lawyer with that name works in that office location. Mention this to the government and contact the law association.

Smit violated the law if she if she used threatening, intimidating, coercive, profane language or used undue, excessive or unreasonable pressure on any of you. If she wants to notify a credit bureau of your failure to pay, you could also put a note in your file stating that this claim is disputed (Equifax tel: 1-800-8653908).

Keep a copy of ALL her voicemail messages and note the time, date and frequency of her calls if possible. Try to keep the original messages on your original voicemail. Do not speak with Smit without recording what she says. Better still, just let her leave voicemails on your phone.

I just began having the same problem. I got a threatening latter for the first time in 2 years after canceling more then 2 years ago to pay then $23 or they will take it to a collections agency.

If I don't pay will the collections agency come after me for $20? Will my credit be ruined?

Can anyone help me. This woman is phoning for you guess it Premier Fitness. I have all my documentation and she has given me a fax number of 1-905-481-4389 which is always busy. I have told her if my file goes to a collection agaency Premier better be prepared to go to small claims court, since I have all my records showing everything paid. Can anyone help me trying to get a email addaress of address so I can send my stuff to her since this fax number is BULL!!!!!!

I just received a call from the Michelle I have found hear that you are speaking of. I have no connection with Premier Fitness. The Law firm she said was Stephan Walters and the number she gave was905-296-3537. I have seen a similar number on this page but wonder if it's the same person or just using several numbers. I got some harassing messages from this Michelle Smit B*tch, claiming she works for Stephen Walters Law firm, and trying to collect from yet again Mademoiselle. EVERY collection agency tries pathetic tactics to get you to pay money on their dead line which is always an unreasonable amount of time such as a week or so. I was going to pay this woman with four post dated checks, and after reading up o her I am so glad I didn't. She called me 5 times in four weeks, and I refuse to pay her a single dime, as I had only every been to that gym for 45 minutes and was told by mademoiselle that I can not cancel. I have yet to receive any letter from her claiming she will take me to court, to pay for it all. But if I do I will have just as little belief in that letter as I did when mademoiselle was sending me the threatening letters. If this woman calls you, do not agree to pay her a dime, do not talk to her. Her claiming she works at this FAKE A*S law firm is only an attempt to intimidate, and I know at first it worked on me so it must have worked on other people. And in all honestly my credit score is already lower seeing as I never did pay the gym, it's not going to get any lower. Don't be tricked into her scamming ways, tell her to eat it.

This woman keeps calling me at work and at home.  Leaving msgs.  No indication of why she is contacting me.  Claiming Steven Walters Law Office.
Latest msg is, if I don't contact her by 6/2, she will have "no option but to take further action against this claim and yourself."  Still no idea what "this claim" is.
I'm calling the RCMP tonight.
