My husband got a call from her today.  We live in Nova Scotia.  She just left a message on our answering machine saying she was from Steven Walters Law firm.  Well aparently there's no such law firm and then I found this.  Am I ever glad this is here.  She is not getting one dime of our money!  I suspected this was a scam of some type.  I hope she calls back and I get to take the call.  I'm a paralegal and if she threatens to sue me she had better be able to list all the steps, documents and process it takes to actually sue somebody.

I have a feeling she doesn't know these things and I will be more than happy to call her out on her CRAP!  She is messing with the wrong people here!

Hmm, glad I found this site!  I got a call from Michelle today and wondered why she was contacting me in Alberta.  I recognized the area code as Ontario and my son's father lives in B.C., so I had no clue why a "law firm" would be contacting me.   Is it not illegal to misrepresent oneself, especially when you are claiming to be a law firm????

thank goodness I google everything...I came home from work to find a message from a Michelle at 905-296-3027 indicating that she was calling from Steve Walters Law Office and she was calling about a claim and wanted me to call her back...given that it was after 8:00 p.m. I called the number back only to get voicemail.  After googling Steve Walters and reading all of the posts I definitely will NOT be calling her back again or answering her calls if I am home.  the strange thing is - I don't owe anyone any money...so I'm not sure what the claim is.  If they found my phone number (I'm not listed in the phone book) then they can probably find my address and we'll see if any mail arrives.  I'll keep you posted.

Ok so I feel the need to share with all of you that I received a call from Stephen Walters office and after I read all of this on this web page i decided to ignore the calls. Then I started getting letters stating they would take me to court/effect my credit...But i kept on ignoring the calls and letters. So now guess what??!?!?!?!??!?!?

They have taken me to court and garnished my wages.....OMFG you're all wrong about them. They are real they have the right to call and yes they will make good on the threats....May I suggest to everyone to STOP reading crap from people that dont actually know whats going on. Call the people back and find out what they want then fight the claim on your terms...get the so called proof or else you'll be in the same spot as me having my wages garnished instead of figuring it out on my terms......

People they are scammers! However if you get served with papers from court. Then take it serious!

Not Michelle and I did get served thank you and I owed a debt.....The judge granted the judgment and now im stuck getting my wage garnished....dont associate Steven Walters or Michelle to me I am just as angry but didnt want to see anyone else get hurt as I did get over yourself

Angry/Michelle you are so full of it!!  Scam scam scam.  Must be nice to be able to sit on your [***] from your house or wherever you are (because you are NOT in any type of law firm. as I said above I checked with the Ontario Barristers Society and this firm does NOT exsist!!) and try to scare people out of their money.  You can't serve and sue people in another province unless you are ready to fly to that province and appear LIVE in court there.  I am in NS and these calls are comming from Ontario.  Unless this Michelle person were to actually be willing to fly here and appear in small claims court, which would never happen, this is another way you are scamming.

People have found you out on the internet and now you are trying to put fear into them here.  Nice try but it won't work.  You can't sue someone from another province unless you appear in court there personally.  And most of these amounts are only enough to go through Small Claims court.  Small claims court can not garnish anyones wages.  
Honestly, I don't know how you sleep at night.

I too have just started receiving these messages from a Claudia (or something like that). And she does have a think accent. I was starting to get panicked about this whole thing, cause I couldn't imagine what it could possibly be about. There is no reason for anyone to be putting a claim against me. I am so glad I found these postings and will now just delete every message that comes my way from her. My question now is there any way of blocking this number????

Oh this is sooooo funny. My story is so similar, but i cant say this woman's name is Michelle, she saying it Claud or something like that. First off I joined Priemer Fitness Erin Mills Missisauga around July 2006, as a corporate deal that was advertised at work. I joined for 20 something plus tax biweekly. I barely went their 10 times. They did a special assessment on me, and said after 3 months of being there, they would contact me...and see how well I was doing. This never happened. Time went on...and I lost tract...paying them time June 2008 when I finnally thought..hey this is free money, Im stopping this membership. I sent a letter to whom it may concern of June 2008 and then never heard from them until the beginning of Jan 2010. I have been getting only voicemails...seems the person who called me always choice to call me when I was finished work..and then when I got home some woman with an accent...leaving a message at my home. I first thought it was a tellamaketer  till I listened closer to the messages I got at work. I did not phone her back.  Later I turned my message system at work off and blocked her number from my home ..and got my "" chains" rattled when my sister recieved a call from her. Now this was embarasing me, and effecting me.  A few days later I got to work, and recieved an email from the manager's secretary stating I should phone this woman.  My blood pressure was at boiling point at that time. It was 7am in the morning, and I called the 905-296-3027 back and left 3 messages stating as per the law any claim would have to be mailed to me registered if she required a response.  Needless to say the next Monday Night I found a registered notice in my mailbox.  Upset and frustrated I picked up the letter from the postoffice, and like everyone elses on this link...it was a threating letter telling me I  had 5 days to pay up...threatening to destroy my credit rating and that they would take me to court over a unexplained owned amount of about $1,118.00   and that I would have to pay for all court costs. Also that they would contact my employer and garnish my wages for the amounts.  Upset and frustrated I began to type them a leter in responds... typing in number form  1) they would NOT be getting any money  2) any changes to my credit rating I would request the Credit Brureal to pull as this was a disputed claim and 3) that uppon Judgment in my favor her company would be RESONSIBLE for all court costs.
Then I later cautiononed them to know the facts before they take action...then stated the simple laws that all companies under the law are required to notify their clients of contract renewals anually giving them the opotunity to cancel...as which Priemer Fittness.. (sorry about the typos..I perfer to call it Death Fittness) are required to do . They neglected to do with me two years in a row.  I was sick about this so in order to get solic over this situation, called a lawyer up and asked him for his advise. He was a great guy and told me to CC. his name at the bottom...and then said that legal letter head would really scare the [***] outa them.  Then after speaking with him for a bit, he asked me to send him copiesd of my letter and all the docoments to him, as he would " tighten the letter up for me." He said I was being way too nice...and to take all the PLEASES out of my writings. So I did that... it has been over a week now...I have not heard back from the lawyer or from Stepehn Walters Company.  I am very very antious about the out come..and would really really love to hear from anyone who has successfully got these [***] from Priemer Fitness to stop.  If I owed them the money...I would pay them in a heatbeat. But my concience will not me allow myself from doing that ( does that make sence???) I would  rather pay a Lawyer the money these creeps are asking me, to have some justice done and stop this. After the dust settles...I would LOVE to do something to bring this crap right out in the open. I have been reading so many bad things about this company Priemer Fittness...I would love to bring them down and give them the worst advertisment. It pisses me off..when I go to get my mail and in the mail get junk mail of which Priemer Fitness is trying to pull in more innocent victiims.In the past I have been a member of two other gyms...and NEVER have I ever been treated in such a manner. I think the public needs to be aware of this company before they sign on the dotted line.  PLEASE everyone...please keep everyone updated on your progress on all of your cases. no, I havent heard from this so called Maffia Stephen Walters Law office yet. Over a month ago I got their registered letter saying I had 5 days to pay up. My lawyer suggested he should send them a letter....so as of this date May 5th 2010 have heard nothing!!!!  About a month ago I had gone online to Equafax.. I think thats the name to check my credit rating to ensure nothing had gone on...and not a thing. I have now recieved a monthly email from Equafax to confirm nothing new or bad has been added. I thought I would still get the phone calls but nothing, not after their Claim letter to me.  
Cmac, I was worried sick about this sitution, I am 52 and have a great credit rating and never have been harrased like this in my life. I have a friend who told me his son had the same problem, similar to mine, and similar to yours...and all the others on here. I had recieve a call from Ontario Consumer Protection Board and she told me that Premier Fitness is on their Consumer Beware List...of companies..and they wanted a followup on my report as they recommended me to take my complaint to the Law Society of Upper Canada. I truely beleive they are some collection  agency... and relying on their intimidation tacticts on good people like ourselves to cave in and send them  money.  

To the person who previously commented on having her wages garnished...I say she deserved that. No one can garnish your wages, unless there is a court order...and in Canada we all have the right to go to court and state our cases. If a judge looked at the evidence.... it would seem this person had not attended the court nor defended her rights...her fault.  In this case vs  Preimer Fitness...they have no way of winning with me.  I could turn around, and charge them with not sending me a contract renewal notice, and taking a year and a half membership fees from a non- member at the fault of their own.

My advise, is be cautiously optimistic. You need to answer this woman once, either leave a message like I did...telling her to stop it...then state to her, as per the rules regulating collection Agencys to send you a letter...tell her to Register it...( I like that..it makes them pay something lol)  Then when you get her letter..either reply, in FIRM  and not so polite wording to take a hike.  Then wait. I bet.. you will not hear a thing!

I just received a call today from this 'Michelle' from Stephen Walters Law Office as well.  I suspect it is in regards to a small account of $90 I have disputed, though, in contravention of the Debt Collection Act of Ontario, she told me nothing about the alleged "claim".  I am going to contact the Ontario Bar Association:

and I would suggest everyone who has been contacted by her do the same.  If enough complaints are filed, the Bar association can take disciplinary action against this Stephen Walters (If he even exists and is a lawyer, if he is not a lawyer, and she is NOT in a law office, the RCMP will get involved.  Also record all your conversations with her and keep all the messages she leaves on your answering machine or voice mail.  Good luck.

I did check, and there is a Steve Walters Law office in Mississauga Ontario.  Phone is 905-826-0651; I listened to the directory and there is no 'Michelle' listed on their directory.  Perhaps a call to Steve (his local is 222) will help clear things up a bit.  If she is NOT with his law office, I guarantee he will find out what the story is and deal with it.

OMG!!!!!! I have had the same experience but I got calls from a lady name Claude. But I paid my amount owing because I cancelled my contract early because I found out I was pregnanct with twins and I figured I cant do weigts or work out hard-core, since my Dr. told me to take it easy, too. But it shows in my bank account that the monies were taken out. But I remember they were presistant to give them money orders but I suggested a personal chq. so I can actually see my history payment, if you know what I mean. After reading these complains, I feel such an idiot now!?!  DID I DO THE RIGHT THING???

I have heard nothing from them, since I ignored Claude's letter. I did get a lawyer to fax them a reply..... since then, I have heard nothing. Anyone who is being harassed, as I previously stated, talk to this woman, tell her to stop the harrassing calls. If she wishes to send you a bill... fine. then ignore it. They are just trying to intimidate people. I was terribly upset over her harrasing phone calls, but in the end its all a part of their attempt to get money.  My credit history has not been effected, as I am keeping a watch on things.

I will cost them more to take you to court, about $135. That includes the filing, issuing fee as well as the process serving fee.
