I just got out of the shower and found this missed call on my phone, the number 949-286-3311... No voicemail though. I googled it and now I'm here... What is this really?

I got a call to my home phone today, with caller id showing it was a Verizon caller, but they left no message.
I Googled the number, wondering where the area code was from, trying to figure out who hung up. It was good to find all the info online about it. I agree it's some phishing scheme.
Later, a message was left by the same number, but not with the same message noted above about my Verizon account per se, but some perky female voice stating that I was eligible for an equipment upgrade (not true, since I just did that in March of 07) and to call this number for more info: 866-566-8332.
I won't be calling.

Recorded message telling me to call some 800 number to verify account info with Verizon. Sounded ridiculously phishy. Why do they think the phishing schemes that sometimes work with email would work over the phone, are people really that dumb?

Have gotten several missed calls from this number - no message is ever left in vm and I will not be calling back.

fake verizon wireless scam!

Got a call last week from 949-286-3311 and didn't get to the phone fast enough to answer it. They did not leave a message and I did not recognize the number so I googled the number and find out it was a scam. They called back 15 minutes later and I this time I answered to see what it was all about (knowing it was a scam). They asked for the acct. holder by name and said they were from Verizon and needed to speak to that person. When I told them they were not home, they wanted the account holder to call them back at a 800 number.

I then get the call again TODAY. This time I asked them to tell me what the cell phone number was - they could NOT - said it was against their policy. They said it was regarding a past due amount. I told her the account holder would not be calling back because she could not verify the number and I DID NOT have a past due amount. I told them I could check my verizon account online right then and there would not be anything past due. She then got VERY ugly and said "then don't call back and pay the $15 reconnect fee when my service gets cut off!!!" Sorry - I am not calling anyone back that has just LIED to me! SCAM!!!!

RCVD a call from 949-286-3311... Left a voicemail saying to call 1-800-754-0961. I reported this to Verizon as this is not legit. This is a phone scam and no one should call these numbers back or give out any personal information!!

I looked at my phone and saw that I got a call from this number (949-286-3311).  I checked my voicemail because they had left a message and it was an automated message.  It said something like "This is Verizon Wireless calling about your cellular phone account" (or something like that).

It's kind of weird because....

....AT&T/Cingular is my wireless phone service.  Not Verizon.

I just ignored it.

I got two calls from this number this morning. i didnt answer. i also happen to be selling something on craigs list and i accidentally gave a scammer my phone number. idk who it is. also got a call from another wierd number 23427523604. which is a really weird number because it has one extra number in it! none of them left voicemails.

I received a call from 949-286-3311 and the voice mail message was an automated voice that told me to call 800-754-0961 regarding my Verizon service.  I'm on a family plan, and not the main number, so why would they be calling me?!

Lots of people reporting this as a scam.  Those who say it is not are probably part of the scam.

This phishing scammer is at it again. If you think it's a real call from the big red V, you are sadly mistaken.

To verify this, call Verizon directly using the contact number from your V bill or their website.

This kind of scam is not new, and I'd like to see the perp's family tortured in front of them.

Just got a call on my cell phone from this number. It went to voice mail, and what I heard was an automated message asking me to stay on the line if interested in signing up for "another year" or if not a good time, to call back at 866-566-8332. I assume it's from Verizon like the other people say but I've never been a Verizon customer.

I got a call from this number. No one was there. When I called it back it said that it was Verizon Wireless and that their number had changed. It was connecting me to the right number and then it connected me to verizon wirelesss financial services. I dont have an account with Verizon so I find that interesting.

Numerous calls to my home phone. No one there when I answer. I don't hang up hoping that they have to pay for the time. Verizon should be looking into this!

It is Verizon Wireless. you are overdue on your bill

So I got an email from a family member about this number. I googled it and was brought here as I have so many times before when checking other numbers. I read all of the posts listed at the time and I saw alot of conflicting information. Some sayign yes it is Verizon and alot of it is not, and even people sayign they are not even Verizonwireless customers. The last post sayign it is Verizonwireless and your account is past due.
Well I called *611 on my verizon cell and talked to customer service. They took down the 949 number and also an 800 number that was listed here as a voice mail had said to call the 800 number back. I was put on hold while he called teh 949 number. He told me he got a recording that said the number had been cahnged giving him the new number then also transfering him to the new number. It did take him to finacial services that is in fact Verizonwireless. I gave him the web addy for here, and he is reporting this blog and the information I gave him to the finacial department. He did say that there are times there system calls when a balance is about to be due and will ask if you would liek to make a payment before you are past due, and other times it is because an account is past due.
If you are not a verizonwireless customer and have recived a call saying it is about your account. I think it important that you hang up and call Verizon your self. You can find there number on there website verizonwireless.com. the direct line to contact them is (800) 922-0204. I think it would be important for you to call them about getting a call about an account you do not have because if someone in there company is tryign to scam people from there they can't find them if they don't know. Also ID thieft is still on a very high rise and if someone has set up an account under your info with out you knowing it, they could ruin your credit, and leave you with costly bills that can not be delt with unless you find out this has happend and start to get it fixed ASAP.
If you are a verizonwireless customer and do not feel comfortable with any call you get from someone saying they are with Verizon even customer service says to hang up and call customer service yourself and they will go over your account with you and help you find out why they are calling. You call use the 800 number or call *611 from your cell phone. They will not be upset that you hung up on what you felt was a scam as they agree you shouldn't feel you are at risk when dealign with them.
Also customer service explained if they are callign you then they do not need your information as they shoudl have it in front of them becasue they called you. They may need/want to be sure they are talkign to the person in charge of the account. Another way to be sure you are not giving out personal info is by contacting anyone you deal with that needs to be sure it is you they are talkign to and chage how they verify that it is you by setting up a PIN or password. That way you are not identified with a SS# or other information that you don't feel comfortable giving.
When you call Verizon they will have to be sure they are talkign to the account holder, but as they did not call you in order to go over your account they do have to be sure it is you, and this brings me to another reason to set up passwords or PINs with them.
I was told that sometimes teh system will call on an account by a numirc order insted of callign the main line. You can set it up so all billign info only goes to the main line. However if it is not set up that way in the system then it has and can call what ever number shows up first beign listed in order. (such as it will call (111)213-4777 first before calling (111)213- 4677).
So a quick recap. It is Verizonwireless. However you can always go online and get the 800 number for customer service and call them back yourself to see why they are tryign to reach you, or dial *611 to get them quick on your cell and have no air time used for the call. If you go to there web site and go to the contact us you can check on the 800 number and it also lists the *611. And please be aware if you are nto a verizon customer you may want to contact them to see exactly why they have a number to call you at, so if you need to fix anythign that was not set up by you then you get it done ASAP.

The 909-286-3311 number belongs to Verizon Wireless accounnt services. If you call the number it will tell you to call Verizon regarding your wireless account. They will only call you if your bill is past due.

I do not have an accont with Verizon. They keep calling me looking for my sister. I called them back and told them they have no business calling customer's family members and advised them to take my name off their list and not to call me again. We'll see if they actually follow through.
