THE ANSWER IS !!!!  This is a legitimate call from Verizon Financial Services.  I received a similar call and spent considerable time with a Verizon Cust Service Rep who did a BRILLIANT JOB of sorting it out.  The phone calls are computer generated -- therefore multiple calls and often hangups since they take the next call in the queue.  That answers the hangups --- rightly or wrongly.  The caller ID on the phone is legit and is what they use for outgoing calls.  The reason they call is one of the following.   You owe them.   They have your phone number attached to someone who owes them.   If you don't owe them, tell them to search your phone number and take your number off the account of the person who owes them.  ----  They had my home phone number on someone elses account.  They removed it and the calls stopped.  Hope this answers everyones questions.

This is Verizon Wireless claiming to be collecting on past due accounts, but I can not get them to stop calling my home!  Each time they call, they ask for a different person.  Not only do I not know the person they are asking for, but I do not have an account with Verizon Wireless.  When I speak with a supervisor, they indicate our number will be removed.  A couple of days will go by and I start getting calls again.

What can I do?  I am willing to take action, but I do not know where to start.  I have contacted the FCC, but I do not know if this will lead anywhere.

Guess what, all.  It's legit.  It is an automated number from Verizon Wireless financial services, and they are giving you a courtesy call regarding your past due account.  If you have stated on here that they called you and YOUR account is really paid in full, then someone else put you on as a 'contact' person, and they are past due.

I, personally, am grateful for the call, because it means something went wrong with my automatic bill pay thru my bank.  I'd rather get a call from someone I don't know on my cell phone (when I can just choose to ignore it), than have my cell phone turned off.

SO now you know.  Put the number in as Verizon Wireless billing, and the next time they call, it'll show up that way, you can answer it, and they're happy to have you call back on a known Verizon Wireless number to set up payment plans.

And no - I don't work for Verizon, but I've been a Verizon wireless customer for 10 years now, and have never been disappointed with their product or their service.

It is an automated Verizon Wireless accounts computer advising you that you are late on your bill.  It is a courtesy call.  If you don't have Verizon Wireless, you may still get calls from them because someone might have 'accidently' listed your number as a secondary number.

    wow people are s-l-o-w!!!

it was the old number used by verizon's financial services. HOWEVER, financial services have now been changed to a 800 number for YOUR good, since 800 does not charge YOU but 949 is a CA area code and it is a long distance call.

They do not only call about your financial issues: past due bill, error with taking money from your auto-pay set-up bank account, or whatever else. They also call back in regards to COMPLAINTS YOU make about your service via email, phone, etc.

They will call your home line or cell line, since you put your home on the application when you get a cell phone, or if you put a home line number at any time.

It is real and it still shows on your phone as 949. If you call it back it is a recording of a female whom tells YOU to call the 800 number.

    simple.

BANDBROCKS: obviously someone used your number as their home number on the application but the person must have not paid and the cell phone is shut off so they need to call the home line from the application.

949-286-3311, verified verizon wireless financial services. they call after your  2nd bill posts as due if the first has not been paid. good thing too, its your only warning before they cut you off.  if your not paid within 5 days or so, service gets disconnected.

Maybe we all should start calling them back and see how they like it =)

just got a call from this number. Didn't know it so i didn't answer it. i've read some of the messages and some say it is a Verizon number. It very well could be. Verizon has people they contract out to make calls reguarding billing, if your payment is late they will call instead of a Verizon employee, this saves them time and hassel. Found this out when my mother-in-law passed away and was told that I needed to send a copy of death certificate and letter appointing me power of attorney in order to cancel her account. Later spoke to a real Verizon customer person and that's when I was told that this is what they do.

I have received two calls today from this number. I have never had a verizon account in my name and I have a t-mobile plan.  I don't answer calls from people or numbers I don't know. If they were important to me I would have their number, but they shouldn't have it, because I don't give it out and I have a number through a different company. I don't own verizon anything and I never have. What's the deal?

I got a call from this number today.  She said she was from Verizon and needed my password to go over my account.  What a desperate looser this idiot is.  If she does indeed work for Verizon, someone needs to report her.

The calls I am getting is on my land line and not my cell phone I am on Sprint and my bill is current. Yet I too can say since early spring of 2007 right up to today 8/11/2008 I have had numerous calls from different numbers starting from the area code 913, 949,877 they all register as Out of Area calls sometimes they begin the calls as early as 4:30 am California time throughout the day hours and into the late hours at night. I use to answer them and never heard anything or at times a peeping sound would start then there phone would hang up leaving no message. Since its a on going thing at my home I have reported this to my Phone Company Today ! I was given a number that I will pass on for any of us to call and report these abusive calls to 1-888-382-1222 I hope it will help solve this problem we are all having. There HAS TO BE OR SHOULD BE State Regulations that Prohibit and STOP these Companies from Harrasment as I feel it has done time and time over.    Good Luck    Molly
