Just had a few weeks ago a new B.T. landline put in and shaw enouth i am getting 2 calls a day now. i dont answer the phone and just dial 1471 then google it. My number is an ex directory number so it has to be someone within B.T. secretly selling numbers. Even call preference is totaly useless to preven this. If ex directory numbers are being got then it can only be down to the landline provider. When you make an official complaint to B.T. you just get someone come on and tell you that these companies use special trawling software that try random numbers until they get a responce a ringing tone. So their is nothing anyone can do about this. I yet to find such elabrate software on the internet to evidence this. Would not surprise me if B.T. are secretly selling numbers to a certain companies. After all mobile companies do it thats why you get premium rate text messages when you have a mobile phone contract. B.T. Never admit this. Data protection seems useless in thr U.K. now!!

Three calls yesterday from different numbers. Now every call like these I will put a complaint on /www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/marketing.aspx

received a call (recorded message) from this number today saying i was 60 or under and was due a refund of £1000 on my pension.    I hung up when they asked to me press 5 for further information, although i was tempted.    I am well into my 60's so assumed that this was a scam or they would have know how old i am so do the next best thing and google it, glad i did.   Thanks to other people who are plagued by these calls we can double check that this is a scam. but I agree with Anna and think there might be a lot of older people out there who fall for this, is there anything that can be done to stop these calls.

I answered and after being told I would get £1000 for being under 60 dialled the number 5 as instructed (out of curiosity), someone answered and said I was being called about my pension, twice I asked who I was being called by and they hung up - says it all I think!!

Same as above. Doesn't look as though TPS can do anything about this as they require business name and address. Will contact phone line provider to see if they can help.

You are right, TPS doesn't work for these calls, but the Information Commissioners Office does.  All silent and prerecorded texts and phone calls should be reported to the ICO.  They recently fined two men over £400,000 for setting up this type of thing.  Reporting is easy on the ICO website and you DO NOT need the callers name, only the phone number.  You do not even need to leave any personal information if you don't want to.  The ICO want to stop this type of nuisance, but they can't do it unless we report the calls

The ICO reporting form does not require a caller's name just the number and nature of the call. The ICO collate all the data, investigate and pursue the offenders as reports of data protection breaches mount. Googled the number and found the following

Magrathea!!!! They are taking the p**s!!!

Magrathea is a planet from the The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy that deported all their hairdressers and telephone cleaners!!!

Oops! Should have googled better. Looks as though Magrathea Telecomms is a legite company.

Have submitted a complaint to ICO

Another call from this number despite being registered with TPS. Some crap about a Private Pension Bonus....

If it was real my pension companies would write to me.

Just rang at 1616, 29/01/13 recorded message, 'Don't miss out on a bonus on your private pension' nerds!

Birmingham accent female.  “…because I am under 60 (I’m not) I’m entitled to £1000 bonus on my pension …”   (If I was under 60 would I be claiming a pension?).  “ Press 5 for xxx;  Pres 9 for something else...”

Answered call and as others have got this £1000 pension claim nonsense because I under 60 which I'm not! I did not press 5 when asked and hung up. Just another scam. One of these call all possible numbers and see if someone answers. Pests.......

Got an answer phone message from 01216672481 today claiming that I was owed a £1,000 bonus whilst being under 60 years old.

No mention of who from, only told to press button 5 to respond?

Strong suspicion of a scam. Could it even be press 5 to connect to premium rate number I wonder?

The same as everybody else. Fortunately I use the Truecall device and I just Zap them - great satisfaction to know that they won't ring my number again.

I agree with a previous poster. The only way to deal with these is to report them to ICO which is now in my favourites list! It's a nuisance having to spend time doing it but it MAY stop them - we can only hope. I intend to report everything I can and already use 7726 to report SPAM on my mobile. Good luck everyone.

23 consecutive meesages from this number this morning. Phone was ringing & answering for more than 2 hours.

Had a few phone calls over the last few weeks from this number and other similar numbers and all say the same thing, it's either PPI or Pension, considering we are ex-directory this is ridiculous so it's other companies giving out our number, absolutely ridiculous but how can we prove what companies are doing it
