They don't have your number. they have a dialer that tries random numbers until someone answers.

NEVER press a button! At the very least that tells them 3 things.

1: You are patient enough to listen to the whole message
2: You are a human being who understands English rather than an answer phone.
3: If it is a landline, you are home at that time, that day

They are likely to keep a note of those numbers that were answered by a human and who were persuaded to press a button. This means you are vastly more likely to get these calls in the future.

At worst you can end up with huge bills from reversed charge calls.

The best thing to do is turn your answerphone off when you see a dodgy call coming in and don't answer your phone. They are likely to log how many calls are answered, etc.

These Bas***s cant be controlled by BT or the Telcom authorities? BT become pain in the ASS****. Sorry but it is a fact, so best way to ignore these calls, as if you press 5 then they will call you again and again and if press 9 the call will be charged to you at the premium rate (£1.25/mnt).

FYI, PPI claims seems very attractive, and people call to check for the claim BUT you know PPI means calling on that number and provide them all personal & private detail including all your financial detail for the last 7 or 10 years. SO this PPI stands for "Provide Personal Information".

I just had the recorded message about the pension bonus, time running out etc, press 5 to be stiffed.  Five minutes after that call I had a silent call.

I've been ex directory and on TPS for the ten years I've lived in this house and I would say in it's in the last year that I'm suddenly getting plenty of these calls.   Whether it is auto diallers or BT or someone else who has sold my number the effect is the same.  I'll be moving soon and will have one landline call with the broadband which can be unplugged.

Had a call from this number just now.
A (female voice) recorded message. It was designed to sound official. I immediately recognised it as yet another scam.
I NEVER speak or press any buttons. I wait for them to finish then dial 1471. If I get a number I immediately report it as a nuisance call here:

    http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/marketing.aspx

The message gave no name of who was calling and it claimed I haven't put in my claim for the £1,000 owed on my pension. It rambled on and went on to the usual press button 5 or press button 9.

It's a scam, just hang up, if they were reputable they would introduce them themselves in a correct and pleasant manner, then explain what it is all about. My advice is to just hang up.

Received silent call at 1640, 08/02/13. I tried the ico website (above) ...waste of time...then went to of- com website...got as far as stage 4 of their complaint procedure, couldn't progress any further. I am registered with the useless telephone preference service...all these organisations must be taking back-handers, because nothing is being done. They just sit in their offices playing video games.

Can't we identify this mob(and similar trash), they appear to be undetectable, but they must pay their 'phone bill to someone.
I tried BT Nuisance calls, useless, only suuggesting google, which we all know about.the tps say they can't do anything without the name.
If we all complain to ico or similar, we might get some action.

This number called to inform me that I was due a £1000 increase in my pension. Oh joy. Almost tempted to go with the call and wind the scum up, but that's not as much fun as it used to be so I blobked them on my CallBlocker and hung up.

As per previous listings here: it was a recorded message from a (slightly regional accented English) female.  It flagged (falsely & rediculously) that I have £1000 to claim from my pension as I am under 60 (actually I'm not).
No idea what the basis of the scam is but its clearly a scam - maybe just to get you to press a button and talk on a high cost line.  As usual I just kept the line open for as long as possible without doing anything.

Rang the number back and it's a message saying 'call to do with sales & marketing and nothing to worry about, we may or may not call back, press 5 if you want your number removed from our list', to which I did and we will see what happens as pressing 9 during the call does not work!!  Oh and yes they are rude if you speak to them!!
