    British Gas recovery department. Oh the joys!

    My Direct Debit got cancelled by my bank. The very next day I called British Gas and reset the Direct Debit and also made the first payment that had been missed by the cancelled Direct Debit. All sorted.

    .....oh no it wasn't!

    Received an automated phone call with no caller at the other end. Returned the call, only to be told I owed this amount of money and that I needed to pay it pronto!  The guy wouldn't listen to me whatsover, as I tried to explain the DD was reset. Then told me to stop shouting, which I wasn't!  His abruptness finally pushed me over the line, so I decided to shout abuse and put the phone down. (felt great! Raaaah!)

    2 mintues later another call from the Recovery Department and this time a nice calm and polite gentleman wanted my payment. This time he allowed me to explain myself and my situation. He confirmed the DD had NOT been reset as I was told it had been. So he kindly reset the DD for the original amount.

    What a F***ing joke!!  Talk about one department doesn't know what the other is doing!!!  

    A complete waste of my time and brought me to boiling point in less that 20 seconds.

    THIS NUMBER IS BRITISH GAS AND IS NOT A SCAM. I've just called the 0800 number on my British Gas bill and they have confirmed that I spoke to an organisation working on behalf of British Gas, based in an Indian call centre.

    British Gas out-source debt collection to this company.

    The British Gas chap I spoke to apologised and said he understood why everyone is getting concerned when being called by this number.

    I told him that the staff in the Indian call centre were ill trained and very rude.

    IT'S NOT A SCAM. However, I would follow the advise of everyone else and call British Gas directly instead on 0800 048 0202

    If you are a customer of british gas, then submitt a complaint online via their website. I have just had to do this myself as sick of these calls. At least with doing this via the website and being a complaint they have to raise a complaint form, which must be a pain for them.

    Everyone fill in your complaint forms now, they may just get the message.

    British Gas lost me as a customer today due to repeated calls from idiotic and rude staff on this number.

    I've just moved to EDF, who knows maybe they are as bad but I would be surprised if any company treats their customs like [***] in the same manner as British Gas.

    Do I really need to be threatened at 8am on Saturday morning by some prick who is unable to get it into his head that I have paid my bill, it was only a week overdue before the threats began.

    i am a member of the Greater Manchester police force and have just left BG, owing a small amount of money and gone to another supplier. The said telephone number has rang me on numerous occasions demanding the monies owed which i have refused to pay to them over the phone. I have just rang them informing them of my job and asked to speak to a person in management, suprise, suprise they would not put me through and demanded to know why i wished to speak to a manager. When i told him i believed it to be a scan company he thanked me for phoning before hanging up. He spoke with an asian voice and told me he was in a call centre in India. British Gas should sort this?

    this number calls at least 4 times a day and is normally silent. They have just called and asked for my wife claiming they are British Gas. Informed them she was at work and i am her husband. Asked what it was concerning and she said it was my outstanding debts on gas and electricity accounts. Last week our direct debit was dropped by £100 per month as BG had placed too high a tarrif on our account in error and we were actually owed over £800 by them. I asked the caller for how much we were ' in debt ' and she said i would have to give my card details before we could proceed. Dubious to say the least. told her we were not owing any money and she just said " can you call us back as soon as possible?". i said "no" and she hung up. Never give personal details to callers who can not prove they are genuin. Always ask for postal communication.

    You're right. The offshore British Gas staff are provided by Indian partners such as Capgemini and Cognizant. But because they use the same troublesome billing system that BGTL do, Jupiter, the customer data can be wrong, automated billing and calls faulty, and the good data hard to retrieve by the offshore staff.

    This is British Gas.  They call me at least 5 times a day.  They never leave a message and it is really a pain.
