- LauraI have just received a call from this number ... again with no answer! The number is not real and they are NOT British Gas (I do not have an account with them). PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not give these people any of your card details over the phone and always call them back on the registered number. Also if this happens to you then report it to your local police station or the British Gas complaints team, as these people will keep trying to hassle you and will not rest until they have committed enough fraud.

- B, OxfordWell, this is just damn ridiculous! I am so glad I checked on this site to see if this number was listed, as they have called me three times in the past hour. I've not picked up as I didn't recognise the number. Now I know it's British Gas, I'll not bother. Funny thing is, I have both my Gas and Electricity via them, and one I pay via DD and one I wait for the bill to come in before paying it. I've just had my British Gas statement for the bill I pay via DD and I an over £100 in CREDIT with them! So - they have a ****** nerve to chase me for my other outstanding bill which is only for £86.00.
I'm thinking I may start calling them up and asking for MY money back that is in credit! Why should they have the interest? - Dthey called me for the first time a week ago and asked for me personally, i confirmed that that was my name (probably a mistake) , then I was asked to "hold a moment" but whilst "holding" I changed my mind and hung up on the tos*ers as I am not interested in anything British Gas has to say to me as I am not a client. Unfortunately they haven't stopped ringing - approximately 4 times a day and I will be changing my number. All this for some Asian scam. Stupid.

- Neil McCallThis is an automated call system on behalf of British Gas which originates in India. The staff are unable to work out simple calculations and do not call back when they promise. It took over 2 weeks to call me back when they said it would be half an hour. For the privalidge of not calling back they placed a £14 charge on my account, which I insisted they took off immediatley. They were unable to tell me who placed the call back on the system as their computers do not log the identity of the users. The call centre staff were not only rude but didn't know what they were talking about. It took 40 minutes for them to accept a payment from me. The caller stated at the start that they were British Gas making me belive that I was talking to British Gas where as I was only talking to someone reading a computer screen who didn't know the first thing about the company.

- SaraI am shocked....received a call from this number, the woman on the other side does not say her name or where she calling from, just asking for my name and so on.....I do believe that she need more customer service training...does Mr Peter Metcalf knows about how a phone call should be made?

- AnyalilyI had a phonecall like this yeterday - left me a lovely silent four minute voicemail! cost me 60p to listen to it before I could delete it! Wouldn't mind but only received my bill last week! Had to google the number to find out who it was!

Have added it to my "Don't answer" list as I'm fully up to date with all bills - have never been in arrears or in trouble - so this could only be marketing/sales.

- conalThis lot have been calling me for months sometimes someone is there, sometimes nobody. Doesn't seem to be related to whether I actually owe them money or not. I keep saying they need to call me between 5 and 6 and not while I'm at work but they keep calling - several times a day. I'm switching gas supplier and i think everyone else who has this problem should do the same, that way maybe they'll get the message that this is bad practice.

- dollyThis number rang my mobile twice today, first time music played and the second time there was silence - immediately googled number and having read this website, I won't answer again. Will take advice and save the number on phone as DON'T ANSWER. If I get any more calls, I will be emailing Peter Metcalfe as others have done.
- andyJust dealt with my bills through a call to this number - immediately regretted it. Gave British Gas a call on their published number and they confirmed that the call was legitimate and the bills had been processed correctly on their system. Made a complaint though about them using an 0161 number which gets the alarm bells ringing for many people and the repeated, aggressive nature of the calls.

- Gary FendtENOUGH IS ENOUGH BRITISH GAS !! im working nights and have been paying my gas bill online and yet all i get all day is call upon call , i refuse to unplug my phone as my friends or family may need to contact me and why should i ,and when i answer either i cant understand the person at the other end of the phone or they dont check my account before calling . STOP using your customers as numbers and start treating us like customers !! i for one will be changing supplier however i wonder if they will be any different !

First time I ever recieved a call from these people I spoke to what sounded like a very irate and rude British woman.
She asked me to confirm my name (probably a mistake) and then went on to harass me about paying an unpaid bill of which she would not disclose.
When I informed her that I wasn't aware of any outstanding payments and didn't have any money for the rest of the month anyway she started trying to coerce me into borrowing money from my family, friends or a bank. I'm 100% it is illegal for any company to try and get you into debt in order for you to pay of their bills.
Recieved my gas bill a few days later. All this was over an unpaid £14.07
Paid that off and have been having calls 3+ a day. I just ignore them but have been toying with the odea of picking up and having some fun with these [***]. - gillygilly68It is British Gas.
They tied up my line so I could not call out or have calls connect in, it also rendered my broadband useless! I phoned BT and they did a test on the line but said someone was on it and they had to have a clear line to test it - I just had to wait the two hours before British Gas disconnected the line. I phoned BT and have now spent 10.00 a month to BAR that number for GOOD!
