Quarter to four on a Sunday afternoon!  Didn't recognise so didn't answer. Another one for my call barring machine having checked with this website. Great job  keep it up.

Fed up with the intrusion...especially on my Sunday night!!!

Hi. We just got a call from this number on our landline. Didn't answer Almost as soon as it cut to the computer voice they hung up. Also, according to the machine, I would have to pay up to ring them back :/ glad I didn't answer

They called me recently at 7PM. There was a sound of people laughing before a very polite English woman explained who they were. When she had done so I hung up with no further comment, as I didn't want to waste any more of my time. If they call again I will request payment up front to answer any of their questions (and as I get anxious talking to strangers, I can't guarantee that my answers will be correct).

Definitely Virgin Media gave them my number, I'm not with British Gas or any other companies mentioned here and I'm careful who I give my number to. Virgin is just as bad pestering me on the phone to upgrade my package constantly, wish they'd leave me alone!

Got a call from this number, silent.

OK. That explains how they got a number, but it does not explain why they can ask for you by name. I am ex directory and on the TPS but people are calling my and know exactly who they want to speak to.

If the survey was on behalf of a company or bank, they could well have provided your name and telephone number to get your opinion.  GFK/NOP are a legitimate Market Research Company and work for many Banks, large companies and even the Government.  If you go to the GFK/NOP website and use the "Contact Us" facility, you can tell them to remove your data from data bases and they will do it.  Unfortunately, the researchers are trained to keep 'phoning until someone answers, so that we don't miss the chance to give our views!!  If you answer and ask them to remove your details they can only do it from the data base they are using for that survey, that is why you need to contact the company direct.

Late on 23rd August an individual called Abdul Samad called me from GFK NOP.  They gave their address as Ludgate 245, Blackfriars Road, London SE1 9UL.  The number showed up on my 'phone as 02078909052.  They said that they were conducting research about my banking and they would record the conversation.  That's like someone walking into your house with a tape recorder seeking information about your personal finances!  Just who do these people think they are?
When I emailed their website it got this response from press@gfk.com

Er hang, on that 'phone number is a 0900 number isn't it?  Those are the ones that cost you premium rates aren't they?
Companies like this should be stopped by law don't you think?

I had exactly the same problem. Said they were doing market research and before I could answer (I struggle to breath and it can take a few seconds) they hung up.

rang my mother who lives 50 miles away different surname as remarried, ask for me knew my full name, wouldnt give info about me, this number was 02078 90 90 51, likely same outfit, where they get this info and link is beyond me

A male rang stating he was from GFK and was conducting a survey about car owners and drivers. I told him I don't have a licence he then asked if there was any other person in the house who drove. I told him I lived alone. His answer was I'm sorry I disturbed you.

Many calls to mobile from 02078909052 never answered but I have a wicked voice message on my mobile

A call from this number @2015hrs. 02/10/13 asking about my passport details. I told them to write to me.

Received call from this no today, saying that this is HSBC customer satisfaction survey,
it is sunday today, i thought it would be scam call.
so i refused to talk as i was on job.
i dont know if it is real.

Had a call at 2100hrs asked to confirm my name, didn't give it and challenged person why they were ringing me, would not explain until name given, call went no further.
