    BT WakeUp
Indian sounding man called, very bad connection possibly VOIP, initially claimed to be BT internet technical support, enquiring to see if I  needed technical support for my new BT broadband.
His interest was towards the internal software, viruses and slow running machine problems.
The caller displayed 0702 number prefix gave me no clues as to the origin of the call, but I can usually smell a rat.
I explained that my download speed had reduced to about one third of the original setup, believing it is due to BT resource rationing policy. I am an electroncs engineer and think I know what I am talking about. Initially I had about 90KByte facility but now down to less than 30KByte.
Anyway, he then replied that he was not from BT iteslf, contradicting himself, so now I am suspiscious.
I told him that my problem was specifcically with BT and that he could not help, thankyou and goodbye.

I can only assume that he has somehow acquired a BT database, possibly from a real BT call centre in India.
So now I have two problems with BT.
My narrower narrow broadband speed (rural location) !
And the security of my BT account details which may include email or password detail !
Bl**dy marvellous, I shall quit BT broadband anyway.
There is too much emphasis on profit for investors and not enough investment in infrastructure and customer satisfaction. Their investor oriented make do and mend approach to the roll out of fast broadband service for all in the UK will help keep us in division three, worried by cold callers and scammers, with non technical customers having to pay charges for BT faults when they are unable to argue their case with competence. Her with the handbag started it all.
    Rant over........

indian male claimed to be from England. Wished to know if i was receiving lots of unwanted calls, as they could put a stop to them by using a certain 4 digit number. They then proceeded to ask for my date of birth, at this point i put down the phone.

Just been speaking to someone claiming to be from Computer Technical Support, giving the impression it was obo of my provider, saying they could resolved all of my cumputer support problems, for free, I asked him to name my provider, and he was unable to, my phone and broadband being from different suppliers.

I checked on their website and asked him what the £27/month or £96/year charge was for, in the end he hung up on me!

Received a call from this number today on my ex-directory, Telephone Preference Service-registered number, from an Indian-sounding woman who asked for a Mr Hall and said she was calling from "computer technical support". When I played along and asked what issue she was calling about, she said it was about the broadband connection. She was trying hard to make it sound as if she was responding to a support request, but given that she had the wrong name and I haven't got any technical support requests pending, it was almost certainly a sales call.

On pressing, she told me that the name of the company was "Online Support 2 You". When I asked her if she knew about the TPS, there was an immediate click and the line went dead.

Sneaky move, showing a caller line ID - I've long since stopped answering calls from withheld numbers.

I've just taken a call from a resident of mine, ( I work in a Lifeline control centre), who's had a call from an Indian gentleman who knew her full name. She thought at first he was trying to sell her some 'BT chat' service, where someone from BT calls up elderly, lonely, residents up for a chat. He wouldn't tell her where or which company he was from.
He then started saying things like 'I wouldn't like to be living alone', 'there's lots of young people who go around killing old people you know - I'd be careful sleeping at home on your own with young people around'.
As a result, I've spent the last 20 mins trying to calm down a 80 year old, who doesn't have any hearing problems, (unfortunately),  convince her that this 'gentleman' is a complete and utter time waster and to ignore the comments about young people killing old people.
She's telephoned the police and BT to yet, no avail. Do these people realise what they are saying and the effect it can have on people?

Similar to the ones above offering to clear my debts for free
I asked for all the information to be sent by post as there was no way I was going to pass bank details over the phone at which I was told I was "mentally sick".
Whoever it was sounded Asian and I thought it was a call centre somewhere in India but they said they were in Cardiff

Had a call from this number saying they was working with TPS and that they would put my details on register to stop any marketing call for the next 5years. Confrimed my name and address then they tried asking for my credit card details! They said they already had them on file and could i re confirm them. Only gave out part of my number then asked them to tell me the rest, which he (idian) wouldnt do! I told them if they had them they should be able to tell me. Then has the cheek to ask for my details on the reverse of my card! I told him politely no, then informed him i was going to terminate the call and inform my bank. Any reputable company will not ask you theses details and im glad i didnt give them to him! Even TPS would never ask these details! Looks like these scammers are trying another approach, People Beware!

I keep getting calls from this number too.  The first time i answered an indian man said he wanted to speak to a Mrs Zimbubwe or something and when i said they had the wrong number they wanted my name.  I didn't give it to them obviously and when i asked his name he said his name was Kmtkmt (yeah, right!!).  He said he could help reduce the amount of telemarketing calls i receive, which i laughed at and asked him to confirm that he was actually trying to get me to believe that he was selling a service to reduce telemarketing calls by making said telemarketing calls!!!  I asked to be removed from the mailing list - he said no - which really got my back up!  I ranted at him about being registered with the TPS and that i would be making a complaint before hanging up!

The next day i received yet another call, this time from an indian man purporting to be able to reduce my debts (i don't have any).  I hung up.  Shortly after i received another call so i answered and just keep saying 'hello' as though i couldn't hear him.  He asked if i was 'having fun with him' (i believe he meant 'making fun of him' - doh!) but i just kept pretending i couldn't hear him, so he told me he loved me, blew a kiss down the phone and hung up.

I have complained to TPS but they said they can't do anything about it because they don't know enough details about the company.  I did an internet search and like many other people i found the reference to Danemere Street Limited so i gave them those details as i figure it's better than nothing!

Not sure what else to do now though - there's only so many times i can make animal noises down the phone or pretend to be french or something!

On a more serious note though, something really needs to be done about these people - it's actually quite scary to think that they're allowed to get away with this.

Yeh the calls are annoying, but no need to be rude about India. You have obviously never been there, and don't really know anything about the country.

    Hello everyone,

As we are seeing more and more posts on various websites as well as an increase in calls, we thought we should come back to some of them so that we can help to shed some light on the situation and resolve some common mis-beliefs.

I have bullet pointed a few key items below which should resolve most items:
All information is correct as of 01/02/2010.

    1.0 Company Information
    -------------------------------------
    a) The numbering you are talking about is owned by Danemere Street Creative Limited which trades as 'Danemere Street'

    b) Danemere Street operates on a B2B (Business to Business) basis only and makes NO outbound sales to end users/consumer/general public at all and has no plan to do this in the future.

    c) All DS staff are UK based and we employ no outside contractors for any sales purposes at all.

    d) We do not operate any form or automated diallers.

    2.0 Numbering
    ----------------------
    a) Any 'Allocated' number i.e. any number that has been provided (and is still in use) to another company will not have our 'not currently in service message' on it.

    b) If you call any of our numbers and receive the 'not currently in service' message then this number has not been in use for atleast 3 months. (Any numbers that have been allocated to a client and then returned or cancelled go into a waiting period of 3 months before going back to being available).

3.0 Explanation of the calls you may be receiving
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    a) If you have been receiving calls where the CLI/CID (Calling Line Identification/Caller ID) is one of our numbers then unless you are a company or a provider of telecoms services yourself then it is almost certainly not us and is a simple case of 'Spoof CLI'.

This is where somone else (be that a call centre, individual or other) has called you and set their 'Outbound Caller ID' to one of our numbers.

    b) Spoof CLI'ing is a common practice that many call centres (main overseas) employ so that they can make 1000's of outbound calls without the worry of people complaining by calling them back up. They simply use someone elses number.

4.0 What should you do? / What can be done?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    a) Unfortunatly if it is a case of 'Spoof CLI' then there is very little that can be done. We (Danemere Street) have NO control over other peoples actions and there decision to set their outbound ID to one of our numbers.

We receive on adverage 25-50 calls/emails a month in relation to spoof CLI's. The information outlined above and below is our stand responce to anyone who calls or emails us.

    b) Saying all that, it may be worth contacting your telecommunication provider and requesting calls from that number be blocked. With BT this service is call 'Choose to refuse'. However there may be a charge for this.

    c) At this time, there appears (to our current knowledge) any way of preventing Spoof CLI calls to occur and more importantly there seems no way for you, us or any other telecom provider to track the origination of the calls easily or maybe even possible. Like you we hope this will one day be possible.

5.0 I dont beleive you, what else can I do!?
    --------------------------------------------------------------
It is totally understandable that many people still do not beleive what we are saying and are very unhappy. With this in mind there are several things that you may wish to consider, HOWEVER please note that this will have NO effect on the situation, but will make you feel better :)

    a) You can contact one or all of the following:
    - Ofcom (www.ofcom.org.uk)
    - The Telephone Preference Service (http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/)
    - Call Prevention Registry (http://www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk)
    - The Police

With the number of Spoof CLI's on the rise, we are regualry in contact with a couple of these and are commited to complying with all rules and regulations set out for telecom providers to ensure the best possible service to our clients and the public.

    b) You can email or call us. Emails should be sent to complaints@danemere-street.com or you can call us between 8am and 6pm (Mon-Fri) on 0845 254 4400. Please note, all calls are recorded and we while we are more than happy to discuss or explain any aspect of the details mentioned herein or anything else related to this, we will not tollerate abusive or vulgar language.

6.0 For the avoidance of doubt.
    ---------------------------------------------
    Duplicated from Section 1:
    a) Danemere Street operates on a B2B (Business to Business) basis only and makes NO outbound sales to end users/consumer/general public at all and has no plan to do this in the future.

    b) All DS staff are UK based and we employ no outside contractors for any sales purposes at all.

    c) We do not operate any form or automated diallers.

    Thank you for your time.

    Kind regards

    Chris

Had a call from a company called CALL STOP (ironically) from this number saying that they were calling on behalf of the TPS and that they would put my details into the TPS register to stop any marketing call for the next 5 years for only £59.99.  What a bargain - NOT!  They confrimed my name and address then they tried asking for my Bank & card details. When I told them I was already registered with the TPS and it was free they went away 'to check' and then told me that the number wasn't registered 'properly'. Told them that I had their name and number and they'd be hearing from my solicitor ;-) and they hung up immediately.  No doubt I'll get yet another call from them later in the week!  Complained to the TPS, not that it'll do any good.  The callers sounded Eastern European.

Just received a call from the above number stating that they were from the Ministry of Justice stating that I had been illegally charged by my bank and credit card companys he said he had some of my details and wanted to check they were correct.  He quoted by name and address which I confirmed he they went on to ask what credit cards I had.  I said to him that I had BT privacy and he then said that that only meant that private companys could not call and try to sell me goods or services.  I asked how he had acquired my telephone number which he would not tell me and kept sayng that he was Government and from the Ministry of Justice and they were going to pay me the money I had been overcharged.  I then asked to be taken off his call list and told him to have a good day and hung up.
