Didn't answer - I am naturally very suspicious about numbers I do not recognise - but immediately ran it through google and found this site, so my instincts were correct.  This is the second time a number with the 07049 prefix has tried to call.  Another give away for this (and for any other computer-generated/cold-call/suspicious numbers) is that the phone only rang for 6 rings - I've notice this a lot with many of the odd calls I've had and refused to answer (most of them probably just cold-callers rather than scams).  It smacks of them just trying random numbers using an automated message system in the hopes someone will answer.  The frustrating thing is that we're registered with the telephone preference service so any legit cold calls we get are only those from outside the UK, but it seems to mean nothing to numbers such as the one that called today - if they are coming from within the UK that is one huge loophole in the TPS.

Caller said "Hello Hello can you hear me?" then put the phone down. Must be using a batch of sim cards again to call people....DON'T CALL THEM BACK IT WILL COST YOU!

TPS is a complete waste of time.

Need to report to Watchdog, OFCOM etc.,

07049 prefix - wife answered the phone - female voice says hello hello .....line goes dead, and like everyone else she is about to call back having traced the number (1471) but I stepped in and said hank on...... Googled the prefix and found this page! Notice that all reports are almost exactle a year ago - so here it goes again..... Clearly a scammer - thanks for posting the info that prevented us from falling foul of this SCAM.

Call from 07049210909, no one on the other end. Am ex directory, and have had the phone number changed since we moved. No idea where they'd have got the number from. It's getting ridiculous, calls like this have become a weekly thing. Just as well the majority of the family use mobiles rather than the landline.

Received a call moments ago from 07049210053.  I'm certainly glad I looked up the 07049 code and found these reports on this site.  Again it was Hello, Hello, can you hear me ?  Certainly glad I did not phone back.

Just received a call from 07049 210534, on a faint crackly line, with a man's voice saying "hello, hello, can you hear me?", before the line went dead and a woman's voice said "I'm sorry, the option you have chosen is not available".

I've also had 3 international calls this week that either hang up after 6 rings, or the line goes dead when I answer. Seems like it's scammer season again.

Just got a call from 07049210667 with the "Hello, hello can hear me" on a bad line and then the woman's voice.  Followed by the line going dead.

Did not call back and my home number is not listed.More concerned that if this was when my 15year old child was home then they may have called back without googling the number.

There must be a way to stop these scams!!!

These 070 numbers are not mobile numbers, they are a type of premium rate number.  Your Network take a share of your money before passing the rest on to the company that owns the numbers.  These types of fraud generate millions for the Networks.  That is why Ofcom turns a blind eye.

070 490 xxxxx and 070 492 xxxxx are supplied by this company

the above 'scam' appears to be organised fraud that 2communications Limited is profiting from.

Their 070 492 xxxxx numbers are also being used in a missed call/call back scam

Hi like others on here, around mid day today I answered a call from 07049 205619 "Hello hello can you hear me said the voice with a sense of urgency as one would expect from a distress call.I dialed 1471 to see if a number was logged,it was as above. My question open to all to answer why in this techno age are these PARASITES not being stopped from scams like this? Doubtless many on here would like to be in contact with the low life scum preferably with their hands round their throats!  Because its unlikely the telecoms business willdo anything about it as they have their noses in the same trough. The more folk suckered by these con artists the more the licencing company may  get in revenue, hardly a pressing case for change then Eh. Where does one go from here? Remember if its genuine or important they will call again. NEVER! ring back unrecognised numbers as one does,nt know how much its costing you until your bill arrives, then its too late.
