- Tackle it head on replies to AndyHI got a refund, I've complainted to my bank though as they were useless and said they wouldn't cancel the next transaction (as it was set to a recurrent card payment), to cut it short, I've comlained to Santander, FOS, Office of Fair trading, Consumer Direct, as the FSA clearly states that the bank should stop any future payments if the customer asks.
- Tackle it head on replies to markYou're totally right, and when our bank doesn't react appropriately to stop it happening we have to confront it, my bank told me to speak to the company, which goes against the FSA directive on this - extract below, they also said they 'couldn't stop the payment'.
Cancelling a regular card payment
When you give your credit or debit card details to a company and authorise them to take regular payments from your account, such as for a gym membership or magazine subscription, it is known as a ‘recurring transaction’ or ‘continuous payment authority’.
These are often confused with direct debits, but do not offer the same guarantee if the amount or date of the payment changes.
In most cases, regular payments can be cancelled by telling the company taking the payments. However, you have the right to cancel them directly with your bank or card issuer by telling it that you have stopped permission for the payments. Your bank or card issuer must then stop them – it has no right to insist that you agree this first with the company taking the payments.
Be aware though that you will still be responsible for paying any money that you owe. - mary glasgow replies to NEIL| 1 replyjust had my credit card statement with a charge or 89.95 from poundsavercard.co.uk and a 39.95 charge from classic living thanks for the phone number got on to them they will refund my money

- simone davis replies to Nikkiyou get a LIFE you guys a set of scammers!!!!!!!
- LC replies to june evans| 1 replyHi - I got caught by these guys as well - was a blow to my pride as much as anything (worked in banking for nearly 20 years, which I don't suppose will make me popular). Ordered my dad's Christmas present online at Zestify, scanned website carefully to make sure I didn't sign up for anything as aware of these recurrent card scams, and placed order. Couple of days later, got a call offering some "free" vouchers, which did not subsequently arrive. Couple of months later, Classic Living & Poundsaver take money from my account - £39.95 & £89.95. I call the Halifax, who were spectacularly useless, I note this is a common theme on this thread that the Halifax are mentioned as being very poor, not only do they blame me but they tell me NOT to cancel my card and low and behold, a further £33.95 was taken out of my account by Prism CD 5 days ago! I am now making a formal complaint to Halifax. Called Classic Living & Poundsaver, who seemed reasonable enough, said they would send vouchers and if I decided I didn't want them would refund my money (will see if it happens). Classic Living & Poundsaver didn't know who Prism were though, so any thoughts? Also, any other companies waiting in wings to take money out of my account with no authority? Given that Halifax are so appalling at helping customers, I have no faith in asking them not to pay out any more money.
- royski replies to LCYES, BEST KEEP AWAY FROM ZESTIFY, ANYWAY THEIR STUFF IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY AND THEY PASS ON YOUR BANK DETAILS
- bina replies to Sue| 1 replyAfter purchasing a mop i noticed 2 payments of £1.60 taken frm my bank. When I enquired I was told that I had to get in touch with the company themselves, who of course have no valid number.THe following month i noticed further payments of £39.95 and £89.95.Now i have been told by my bank that should I not get any response then they will investigate on my behalf. What I cannot understand is that on the invoice that I received from Thane Direct it claims that our bank details are kept confidential even though they may share our personal data with other companies if they wish to.

- Tacle it head on replies to tkjDo as the other people on here suggest. Also, speak to your bank, tell them you've been a victim of fraud, if they're a decent bank following FSA guidelines they'll refund the money immediately and black any future payments (which some people have encountered over 3 years for more), if not log a complaint to your bank, and persist with them until you get any charges refunded. This scam has been around long enough, some banks stop the card immediately, others tell the customer to contact the company, at the end of the day the bank fraud systems should be able to recognise this kind of transaction and should be blockiing the payments from being taken as it is common, it's not new and the only way to stop companies using this unscrupulous tactic is by the banks being pro-active.
- Tiho replies to binaObviously they're passing on the bank details, write to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Your bank shouldn't be telling you to speak to the company under the FSA guidelines (see: FSA ‘know your rights’ ) the bank should be doing more to help you, report the issue to the Bank Fraud dept, and if they won't accept that log a complaint with the Bank, and don't acceept the initial fob off that you'll probably get, and do ring the 0800 number given in earlier posts, or send an email to classic living and poundsaver asking for the money back. I got the £3.20 back, but am currently persuing a complaint with my bank as they refused to accept it as a fraud case, and left me to chase up the refund (which according to the FSA they shouldn't have done). Good luck.
- Tiho replies to LindaWrite to the Information Commissioner’s Office, you'll have to complain to the offending company first, but if enough people persue it they'lre more likely to do something about it, also raise it with your bank, as some banks stop the card when the initial payment is attempted, so it can be done - if we shout together - it'll be louder
