In my case it was Community Nurse, so ties in with it being an NHS number. Thank you to the previous postings that identified it.

This number was NHS, it was a lady confirming I had been successful in an interview. The number does not accept incoming calls though, will be a digital exchange number?

I've just had this number call me and it was an appointments secretary at the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline changing my appointment so must be a NHS Scotland generic number

I got yet another call from this 0800 6783393 freephone number. This time round it was at 07:18 on Monday morning. Now, as it is a freephone number I decided to return the call only to be told by a rather clipped Scottish accent (female) that 'this number does not accept incoming calls'. Why then, the question begs, is it a freephone number?

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this as I would prefer not to receive unsolicited calls.

This is a number for NHS Scotland.  Any outgoing calls from any NHS Scotland Hospital/Trust that are on an exchange will come up as this number.  It would make far more sense for this to come up as witheld rather than displaying the number as it just confuses the situation and worries people as they think it could be something important.

So just for clarity this could be a call from any NHS Hospital or Trust in Scotland (I work for an NHS Trust and had this discussion with the telecoms manager when it was first implemented).

I've had 8 calls this morning so far on my work extension from this number - every time I've answered the call it's just a slow beeping noise.

    Very frustrating.

Clydebank Health Centre also uses 0800 678 3393.

Last month I got a call from it when I was out but had no idea who it was.
    WhoCallsMe gave me a clue.
So I called the NHS hospitals where I was receiving ongoing treatment.
None of them had been trying to call me.

Over a week later I received another call from it when I was in and answered it.
It was from my doctor's receptionist saying to stop taking my medication immediately.
And to call in for a different prescription.
But by then it was too late - I'd finished the course!

It's nothing like the surgery number, and that's why I didn't even give it consideration.
A non-repliable number about health issues is a complete nonsense!

I live in Glasgow as do the rest of my family, have had recent visits to the doctor and am a student at Glasgow Uni Medical School so there's any number of reasons why someone at the NHS in Glasgow could be phoning me, but it's only called once and no message has been left.  Very worrying as now I am worried that something has happened to a family member, even though its probably something trivial.

I just got a call from this number - did not leave a message on the answering machine.  It always annoys me when people or companies do not leave messages - the reason I have an answering machine is - well - frankly so that I know who and why I'm being called - right - simples as the Meerkats would say!

So I work on the principle that if it's important they'll call back or leave a message - that's how I do things.

I rang the number back but to my annoyance got 'this number does not accept incoming calls' in a Scottish accent - I live in Ayr, and can't think why, if correct, anyone from NHS would be calling me.

We received a Silent Call this week from this number, which I now find out to be the NHS.

I think everyone will agree that it is totally unacceptable that the NHS is doing this. If someone is calling from the NHS we should all expect them to at least leave a message that """Such and Such has called from ""XYZ Hospital or Clinic etc"" and will contact you again""".

Silent calls are very upsetting to many vulnerable people and I shall be monitoring this number, and if there are any further Silent calls I think it would be appropriate to bring the matter to the attention of  the local newspapers and also my local Councillor, Member of Parliament, and MSP.

    Everyone else should also complain.

    Watch this Space.
