this number keeps on calling after 4pm and whenever I answer it is quiet; if am not in they leave msg hello, hello

calls then hangs up when answered

Thanks so much for this info guys, I have been getting this number on both my landline and mobile, bloody annoying! Now I know it's a scam I won't feel so bad that I don't bother to answer!
Something should be done if they're targeting existing TalkTalk customers!

I  have received a call from this number many times . I contacted Talktalk as the person
speaking was claiming tobe from talktalk after investigation, they informed me  that this number is from TALKTALK sales  sentre based in India.
It is true that this number is from TALKTALK.  They are not qualified sales assistant, they are dealing with you like you are in India. lol. .......................FORGET ABOUT WHO THIS NUMBER IS FROM TODAY

II've just had a call from that number but I didn't answer it...I went to Talk Talk forums and they say it is a genuine call from Talk Talk from their sales team .

I have had six calls from this number this week. I have not answered any of them.  Who is it?

I got a call from this number yesterday, I never answer this sort of number anyway. My landline is with Talk Talk. Although the number is ex-directory and TPS listed, I guess it's quite reasonable for Talk Talk to call me as a current customer. If this call is actually from Talk talk that is!
I wonder how long it will take the marketing divisions of these companies to figure out that once they've sold their customers caller display, these same customers are never going to answer another call from a call centre?

The caller said she was calling from Talk Talk and requested the Post Code, the first line of my address and DOB for security purposes... would Talk Talk actually phone and ask for your DOB etc just like that? I'm not sure so I just said that if there is an issue with my account, I will contact Talk Talk myself.

got a call from these people today offering me a so called great package for £30. not to happy when I told them that I already get every thing they offered for £16 from them. Idiots

I was cold called - silent when I responded at about 7:15pm on a Friday night ... just when you want to be sitting down and resting from a long week. Thanks TalkTalk

Krrp getting calls abkut 6 pm when answer noone is there so have left phone off hook but no one   an  call me! Not v good Shouldn't have to put up with this!

When I checked who had called this number came up as havoing called me today after 2pm. No idea who.

Suffered this one today too. I got a call about 1730, indian guy said he was from talk talk and knew my name.

As with everything, if i have a problem with something i call the company involved, not the other way around. This immediately made me suspicious.

He then asked me to confirm security questions, address and date of birth... i said "no." He questioned why i wouldn't tell him my details if so he could save me money.

He went on to say he could save me at least £10 on my phone bill, i asked him "why i wasnt offered this tariff to start with." I then said "the current service charge i pay is only £6.99, and you wont can reduce the line rental, so i guarantee you that you cant save me at least £10!"

These scams are becoming more frequent these days and much more cunning, its quite frightening. there needs to be a way of effectively reporting scams like this to enforcement agencies.

This is a copy of the e-mail I received this morning from TalkTalk directly through the customer service e-mail:

I apologise for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you.

I would advise that the last call you have received from TalkTalk was on the 30 August 2010. The call you have received is not from our agents. I would advise that if you were to receive a call from one of our TalkTalk agents, you would be asked to confirm your full name and your TalkTalk account number. I apologise for the call you have received as it was a scam call.

This will hopefully solve this issue! disregard what some of you have been told on the talktalk forums, they are obviously unreliable also it seems...

This is obviously getting widespread, and as you say the TalkTalk forums say it is a genuine call, albeit not very well handled, from my experience it almost certainly is a SCAM, as there is no way they can improve my package from TT other than give it me free ... or get my BB speed up above 4mb which is not possible at the end of the line as I am.

My motto is .. if its not broken leave it alone ..

We just received a call from this number  and didn't believe he was who he said he was. It was a bad quality line and the man calling had a foreign accent. I told him I didn't believe who he said he was and hung up on him.

phone call from talk talk or claiming to be needed to ask me security questions before saving me money. I cannot believe anyone is stupid enough to give out personal details over the phone to someone claiming to be ---------------. But after reading other comments it happens. COME ON PEOPLE YOU DESERVE TO HAVE YOUR IDENTITIES STOLEN.

Had a call from 08009886018 answered and they hung up without speaking so I rang 08704441820 as I am a talk talk customer it is talk talk sales team, I demanded to know why they hung up and told them it was very very rude and I want something done about it told him number that rang and time and demanded something is done about it and said I will be moving my account elsewhere if it happens again, also mentioned this site to them and said lots of other people are angry about the way they put phone down abruptly etc, they said someone would call me back with an explanation and were very very apologetic. Will now wait and see what happens

This number has been calling twice a day all week, never leaves a message on my answering machine. I have been registered with TPC for six years so it must be random number cold calling.

Seems to me that it's quite reasonable to expect a caller from Talk Talk or any other company to be able to positively identify themslves before you answer any of their questions. Something that those running call centres even when a bank is a customer don't seem to have thought of. Without this assurance that the caller does in fact represent the company they claim to, why should we trust anything they say?
