- karen replies to bfc| 4 replieshad same call this morning claiming to be alliance and leicester fraud department..was automated caller asking for dob..tried to hang up, when went to redial the voice was still there
- gI got a voice mail telling me to dial this number for alliance and leicester fraud dept, and I suspect it may well be genuine as I have just had a transaction declined on paypal about 2 minutes before the call came.
I'm not going to call the number however, will dial the customer services number on the A & L website to be sure. - JohnScam number
- L| 1 replyI called the number did 141 from landline. Automated message asking you to enter the number the message was left on. I entered a made up number and was transferred to an 'agent' they asked for my card number. I said what card. They said Santander Card I told them I don't have a Santander card and the woman said oh well it could be a Bradford and Bingley card. I started to laugh and called them a bunch of scamming [***], she hung up. She had an Indian sounding voice.
- Alan HHad calls from this number twice yesterday and again a couple of minutes ago. Claims to be Alliance & Leicester with an important security message then line goes dead.
- Andy| 5 repliesI just got an automated message from this number saying it was Alliance & Leicester Fraud Department and I need to call them about an important security issue. The worrying thing is that it had my full name in the message and it has my phone number which is ex-directory. I called A & L on their real customer service number to report it but they were of no help whatsoever and didn't seem overly concerned about it, saying that "this kind of thing happens all the time and they are aware of it".
Question is, what do we do about it? A & L's only suggestion was to contact the police if it keeps occurring.... - JayGot a silent call 20.30 approx last night and the same tonight, has anyone any ideas who it could be?
- LWe have to find the common link.
Did any of you make online purchases in the last few days. In particular to any merchant that uses Nochex. I did and that's when it started. It was for an iphone unlock.
Alliance & Leicester have now stopped my card and issuing a new one. - Numi replies to Andy| 1 replyAndy - how did you manage to get through to a person at Alliance & Leicester? I just keep getting automated messages. I had this same call this morning, after doing some online shopping.
- Beau replies to NumiRing them on this number 08445619790...
- RegI just had the same call and hung up. I contacted Alliance and Leicester and they confirmed it was not them and now have added this number to their list of fraud numbers. They also confirmed that they never call customers using automated systems for this type of call so if you get it just hang up.
The worrying thing about my call was they called me on my work number which i have only had for a couple of months and would never use as a contact number for any online purchases of anything like that. This makes it unlikely to be because of a website i have used.
The only thing that links my name, my having an alliance and leicester account and that phone number is my details held with alliance and leicester themselves. I never give out that number except for work and i never give out my bank info while at work. Maybee A&L have a Mole!
Life was so much simpler when the only moles were on Big Brother! - Pet| 1 replyThe number is Legitimate, I called back through A & L Customer Service just incase and they had blocked my account after i tried to buy something online.

Caller: Alliance & leicester"
Are you sure? Several people have called A&L Customer services and posted on this and other sites after being told it is not an official call by A&L.
Perhaps it is some mess up with the whole switch to Santander?
Either way, scam or not, I will ALWAYS be hanging up on a machine that says it is from my bank and then call back the number that is on my statements so I know i have the right people. This way I am always covered! - UnHappy| 1 replyHad a call from the number 08453512290 claming to be A & L, and they seem to have known my date of birth claming someone had done a fraud on my A & L account. However, looked on my Online Banking and this was untrue! No one had done a fraud on my account. Was called at 6:13 in the evening. Please be AWARE!

- suspicious from surreyI have received 4 recorded messages from this number today. One claimed to be an important security message from Alliance and Leicester. If it was genuine and important then they would have rung me personally, surely? I usually only use my card in ATM's and avoid using it in petrol stations. However, a few weeks ago I had to use it in a petrol station . Any connection? And how did they find out my ex directory phone number.
- Caller: Alliance and Leicester
- suspicious from surreyafter posting my earlier comments I checked my online bank account and spotted an entry I didnt recognise so I rang A and L at the customer service number on my bank paperwork. They informed me of 3 other fraudulent transactions in the pipeline so I am very glad I checked up. They say they have to send recorded messages to contact them cos there are so many calls to make. However, do ring them from a bona fide number on your official paperwork in case the number is a scam to get your security details. This outbreak of fraud follows my cards use at a petrol station. Keep an eye on your accounts .
- MR G replies to UnHappyTHERE MY HAVE BEEN A TRANSACTION THAT THE BANK DECLINED (THAT YOU WOULDN'T SEE ON YOUR STATEMENT). I'D CALL THE BANK
- Sil3ntn0ise| 1 replyHello everyone, I had a phone call from this automated machine early this morning. I called it back and done some checks on it, then i called alliance & leicester customer service for free on 0116 201 1000 (courtesy of saynoto0870.com) they were very helpful, i spoke to the fraud department, they confirmed the number is one of theirs and that the system picks up on certain stores and transaction amounts and therefore placed a hold on my account for making a large payment to a well known catalog company.
It is real. I would advise you to ring them back, if you dont trust the machine, ring A&L customer service from the phone number on the website.
Kind regards
Sil3ntn0ise- Caller: Alliance & Leicester
- Steve R| 4 repliesIt IS A&L Fraud Department.
Apple screed up a transaction and this put a temporary marker on the card, then they made another test transaction for £1 (to withhold £400 for iPhone replacement) so the card was blocked.
All sorted now, but this number is genuine, you will normally just go through an automated system to unblock your card unless you need to talk to someone. (as of today)- Caller: Alliance & Leicester
