You may receive a 'welcome call' from us soon after connecting which may include details of our own range of insurance products. You can tell it is us as the number displayed on your phone will be 0845 863 0287. If you call us back on this number there is a recorded announcement to give you confidence it is O2.

Had a call from this number, called back and got a recorded message saying it was O2 'checking that everything is ok' (or words to that effect). As I have no blocking facility on my phone, I've simply added the number into my contacts with 'O2 - ignore' as the name.

I started to get this call recently but it was always ended up as a missed call.  On discovering this useful web site decided to contact O2 via there web site by sending them an e-mail.  I simply told them that I was not interested in their marketing calls and told them to remove my number from their database.
I received a reply the following day confirming that they had done this.  They have to obey this request if you are registered with TPS (Telephone Privacy Service).  It is free to register your number on the TPS web site and helps reduce marketing calls.

its simple if it is o2 they have to go through data protection questions by law and after that you can just ask them to confirm things from the account to double check.
I mean when you take a new contract you'll usually get a welcome call from o2 and obviously if your old contract is about to end you'll get a rental call etc...
if its insurance from o2 they don't need you details for payment they are already there it will just be added on your account. but obviously if your looking for a new contract  or connection you may need to provided erm whats that things called o yeah billing information don't expect to get a phone through you door with out having to pay!

    THE 0845 8630 287 annoying calls..........

THE  100% UNDISPUTED  CORRECT  ANSWER  - ACTION TO TAKE  - FOR FREE.................

10 minutes ago I got another ANNOYING CALL FROM  THIS NUMBER 0845 -8630 - 287 and when I answered it a man with a Yorkshire accent asked if  he could talk to R. Earle (me) I said he is not here at the moment and could I take a message - HE PUT THE PHONE DOWN!

I rang back and got a RECORDED MESSAGE WHICH SAID - This was a courtesy call from O2 to see if I am happy with the service I am getting!  There is no need to call us back unless you have a problem - which you can do by calling 202 for free from your mobile!

Funny yesterday evening after receiving several badly timed calls (in work and whilst driving my car) I rang O2 from my mobile and when I complained bitterly about this annoying number ringing me up they left me on hold for a few minutes and came back saying " I have rang the number and cannot get through may I suggest you got to www.phonepayplus.org.uk and have a word with them to see what they can do?

I did and then I went to this site www.tpsonline.org.uk - this is the Telephone Preference Service where you put in your landline and or Moby number and after confirming details by e-mail they register your numbers as NOT TO BE USED BY SALES COMPANYS ETC.

It is a FREE SERVICE and It can take up to 28 for the service to be fully operational.  You may start to notice a difference straight away! If you do get ANY sales calls etc after the 28 days you go back to www.tpsonline.org.uk and input the offending number and they start LEGAL ACTION against the offending company straight away.
    Here endeth the saga.............................

I have received at least one call a day from this number for over a week now, all of which I have ignored following the information on this website (and others).  I have had my phone for almost 18 months now, but recently made a small change to my contract.

I cancelled my O2 contract a couple of days ago and now I'm getting a couple of calls a day from this number. I just ignore them. I presume it's an O2 droid asking for information I gave when I cancelled the contract.

I left O2 more than THREE YEARS AGO so it's definately not a welcoming call !!

Sounds more to me like O2 are using people's private numbers to cold call them, trying to sell them further telecoms / financial products from either themselves or from partner companies that they have struck lucrative tie-in deals with.

Either way, it's aggravating, unsolicited and not going to get them any business from me. I haven't answered any of their calls to date and I won't be answering any in the future.

I called o2 last week to put in my 30 days notice to leave them.

Since then I've had several missed calls from this number & 2Day I answered, it was o2 retention department asking my why I was leaving & I told them it was pure & simple about their data allowance & that I was moving to Three.

    Hope that helps you guys.
