- Ex Staff Member replies to Tracie BThe address listed there is one of many call centres where o2 operate. In fact that particular call centre is an outsourcing contact centre for the likes of BMW, British Gas and many others. O2 are also one of their contracts but this is not an o2 property, or their main base.
You were more likely called by the "Welcome Team" to introduce you to the network and check everything went smoothly. The 'Data Protection Act' means that they cannot give your info to you in case someone else has picked up your phone for example. To pass "Data Protection" some basic checks need to be made to verify your identity first.
For the record, I used to find it tedious and annoying being called a scammer when calling customers 3 months before the end of their contract to allow them to renew early on a better phone with £15 off their line rental. If they had spent a little time rather than immediately jumping to conclusions and insulting language they could have been reassured, instead they never got called back and missed out.
I know this post is very old but this is the time when I worked there and thought I would share my knowledge having stumbled upon this thread. - O2 Outbound AdvisorI work for the O2 Outbound recontracting team and confirm that at our site in Dearne Valley, Manvers, Rotherham, we do have an outbound upgrades team.
I have had a customer yesterday who alerted me that on some sites it says we are a scam. He also stated that he called in to O2 to ask and whichever department he spoke to said that we do not exist. A year ago I worked on customer services before moving to outbound recontracting and was not aware of this department and have myself mistakenly told a customer that it is probably someone else. We have sent out emails and notifications to try and alert all staff to prevent this misinformation and leading customers to believe we are not O2. As a customer has stated, just ask for the area they are based, if they answer with Dearne Valley in Rotherham/ Wath Upon Dearne then they are who they say they are.
People have said they have already upgraded/disconnected and because we have said that we will get that updated they do not believe us. This is true because we have the dialler information when you answer the call, and only after then can we go into your O2 account on our systems which would show us this.
To pass security with you we only ask for you first line of address with the account holder, once given we can confirm anything you wish whether this be the time and duration of your last call or the amount of your last bill etc... Also we can send you a text whilst on the call which will show from the number 80202.
If you are getting repeat calls try to answer them if you can just to give us an outcome even if its just to say you're not interested or already upgraded if it hasn't updated for us yet on the dialler, then you can be removed from the dialler.
We are clearly not a scam because as people have said many times on this thread they have had it confirmed that we are o2, people have taken great deals with us and also you can call the number back which will tell you that we are O2 giving you a courtesy call. Can't imagine how much more proof is needed than this but otherwise call in to us instead on 202.
Many thanks,
an O2 outbound recontracting advisor.- Caller: O2
