- Michele| 1 replyCalled and said they were from Microsoft support and I had a virus on my computer. He wanted me sit at the computer to give him info. I asked questions, he repeated his spiel without answering them. I asked again, same thing. I ended the call... sounds mighty suspicious...
- Dianasame as Michele. Scam scam from Sam from India via California. Said he was Microsoft. My Microsoft account showed two attempts to break into my computer during the time on the phone with the scammer. HANG UP.
- Caller: Microsoft
- Hangup| 1 replyEvery day for the last week (Aug 15 thru Aug 22) the same Indian called with the same (I am from Microsoft and you have a virus) pitch and I would play along, but never turn on my computer. Today I finally confronted him and told him that there was no way I would let him get into my computer. He hung up and I will probably never here from again. Keep him busy and waist his time.
- CheriIndian on the line saying he was from Microsoft support and they detected lots of errors on my computer. When I started asking him questions to verify what computer he was talking about he said my home computer. I asked how would you know if I have a computer in my home or office? He promptly hung up.
- Caller: call came from Los Angeles area on my cell phone
- angel| 2 repliesGuy called said I had a virus on my computer and he was going to fix it. Downloaded some software on my computer and took remote control. Found the number to my spouse and proceeded to call them, creepy. Shut down machine, still trying to call; BEWARE!
- Patricia| 1 replyReceived 2 calls from this number, but I NEVER answer calls from people/numbers I don't know. After checking online first, I find this number is associated with scams to get personal info. The number is now on my auto-reject list.
- Caller: Unknown (scam)
- Nope!Got the call. Instead of telling me I had a virus as other folks in this thread, he told me my computer had been sending error messages to Microsoft. I am a 16 year IT professional, and know Microsoft well enough to know that they will not call you if you send them your error messages, nor will they answer you in any way unless you call them or post on their discussion boards.
- DonSame scam. Routinely get the same calls. Individual with heavy accent calls and says he is with Microsoft and they are receiving error reports from my computer. I asked him which computer, and he says it's my home computer. After advising him I only use computers at work, and don't have a home computer, he immediately hangs up.
- ChangBoeA creepy Indian called me from 213-141-5163 (LA, 213 area code) this morning. He had the same claim like previous entries. I told him my life has nothing to do with computers. I've done the reverse trace his phone number, but it's invalid. It looks like he's a con man.
- Caller: n/a
- MM"Microsoft support"...asked him to call me at a different number, gave him the FBI number. Have Fun!
- Call type: Telemarketer
- AmirHe called me today and said it was bout my computer. I said I could not hear him well. so I asked him again and again until he hung up....
- MH California213-141-5163 caller who is very aggressive. They say, they are calling from the company I had working on my computer and to give them the passcode they provided me so they can refund me. I asked, are you calling from Microsoft, he said no. I hung up ... that written, I had worked with Microsoft in May and did pay using my business card for a annual fee. 2 days after this call, my account was tapped for $4250! 17 consecutive transactions for $250 each .... it may not be a coincidence, Microsoft IT may have been hacked. My bank reversed the charges but never notified me of the initial problem.
- Caller: They say, the company that worked on my computer
- Ob| 1 replyI got the call too. He said he's from Microsoft and I nearly believed him. He said my PC was infected, and convinced me to download TeamViewer so that he could show me the virus on my desktop. We looked at the Task Manager and he showed me csrss.exe, indicating it's a trojan. He then told me that they could offer a solution via 'Total Security System' (I Googled it and didn't find anything relating to PC protection, so I got more suspicious) for $199/yr!
He was pretty persistent, so I told him I have to go to a meeting, and he hung up.- Caller: Microsoft, according to him.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Jeeves replies to ObThe scammers never ask for money until after you have given them remote access to your computer, which you did by using Teamvwr. The reason for this is that they know most people will refuse to pay and hang up. Unfortunately, by then the damage has been done as they have been able to see everything on your computer, including bank details and passwords, which is just what they wanted. The longer they kept you on the 'phone the more information they could steal. You meed to check with your bank and any companies you do internet business with and also get your computer checked out. There is a warning about this scam on the microsoft website and they make it clear that anyone who makes this type of call is a scammer. There are no exceptions.
- Sugarpie70Very rude and persistent person called telling me there is a problem with my computer. They have called at least 5 times even after I told them not to call anymore. After going on line searching this number, it appears that this is a scam.
- Caller: Name Unavailable
- MarvisIndian guy just called me and said my computer had a lot of viruses. I told him "I do not have a computer" and he replied "No worries ma'am, if you can sit in front of your computer and turn it on I will walk you through the steps to get rid of these viruses." I repeated what I said and he goes "Oh, you do or do not have a computer?" I said "I do not have a computer." He just hung up on me. I do have a computer and it runs perfectly. SCAM!
- yatchyCall I didn't answer don't answer calls from numbers I don't know.
- Loufca replies to MicheleSame as Michele. Said he was with Microsoft and asked for details. Told him I had to go to a meeting and he asked several times when I would be back. I simply said "I'm not going to tell you, give me your number and I will call you back". With that, he hung up!!!!
- LoufcaThe caller, with a heavy Indian accent, said he was from Microsoft and they have been getting signals from my computer for the last 2 days of problems. He wanted to know the serial number of my computer (I wouldn't give it to anyone). I told him that I had to go to a meeting and would be back later in the afternoon. He wanted to know when I would be back and I would not tell him. He asked the same question 3 times. I asked him to give me his phone number and I would call him back when I returned. He then hung up on me. BEWARE of this number. SCAM!!
- Caller: Microsoft (supposedly)
