What might have been good for you does not mean legit for everyone.  Numbers and names are often spoofed.
The safe way to go is to take down any info you are given, do not confirm or offer any personal identifying info and then call the store, the cc company or bank using the number on the back of your card.
If your instinct is that person calling is 'phishing' for your personal data, trust your gut feeling.

I keep getting calls from this number but they do not leave a message. I see that everyone is saying it is Macy's. My Macy's cc is set-up for automatic payments and is current as of 1/26/19. Not calling the number back.

Received a call from 8009476229 telling me to call this number!  If this is Macy’s, I haven’t shopped there in years and will call the number on the back of my card for clarification

We’ve been getting calls from this number for weeks. Sometimes as early as 8am and as late as 11:30pm, every day of the week. Including Sundays. Our Macy’s account is not overdue. When we respond as instructed we’re placed in queue waiting for next available rep. After 10 mins on hold we hung up.
