- new in va replies to Tink1Received a letter about a month ago, and phone calls started right after. My husband died over 4 years ago! All his medical bills, credit card bills, have been paid off a long time ago. Spoke to my father-in-law this week, and a message was left at his house. My person is Patti at 888 806-9074. I told him not to respond, and I have suspected from the beginning this is a scam.
- PhateneAscension Point Recovery Services, LLC - 1 (888) 806 - 9073 They could be calling for a deceased relative. They can keep calling would not send them a thing. It is not my debt and do not care what a dead person owes. Going from person to person trying to collect information to make the debt real for the living. When they died the debt died w/ them - if you can sue then do that/ Good luck collectors!

- MMRGot several calls from them starting last week. I simply blocked them. Whoever read my post, please understand, according to law, you are not entitled to anyone's debt if YOUR name isnt listed on the contract! Although they are your loved ones, you are not responsible and it isnt necessary to payoff the debt with your money. The agreement was between your loved ones and the company, not you. Besides, they are suppose to writeoff the debt. This is what Ive been told while handling my loved ones estate. THEY WILL NOT GET 5 CENTS FROM ME!!! Make sure you send copies of their death certficates to all credit bureaus or someone will get their info and abuse it.

- ST| 5 repliesMy 57 year old husband died suddenly 3 weeks ago. His cell phone rang this morning while I was crying so I didn't pick up. Casey Springer left the message that all of you received. Since I had already contacted everyone that he owed money to I was suspicious and thought I'd google the company first. I can't tell you how grateful I am that you all posted about this scam. My beloved brother passed away a few months ago and now I am helping to care for my terminally ill father at home along with hospice care. He will be leaving this earth very soon so this absolute last thing I need is something like this consuming my precious time. How do these people look at themselves in the mirror everyday? Do they have to take a hiring test to prove that they're a sociopath to work there? Despicable. There's a special place in hell for these parasites. I sincerely doubt there will be any ascension for them

- S W replies to ST| 4 repliesI am so sorry for your losses. Today I got "the" call from these people and I thought it was a cruel scam too. They said exactly what everyone else has posted. My problem is I was not even aware my former fiancé had passed away. They would not even give me a date of death. I have been trying to contact people all day long to find out if his death is real with absolutely no luck. Since all the posts I have read speak to a real death in the family, I feel angry & sad because it's probably true. Their methods are disgusting.
- S W replies to S WAn update to my post above and maybe it's the first one to acknowledge any good of what they did. They did immediately back off when I starting asking for details and I never heard from them again. I did a lot of research in the following days and found out the death of my former fiancé was true and I learned some very sad details. Was able to find his son (with a PI's help) who was never contacted when his father passed. In retrospect it was a miracle I got the call; otherwise I would never have known he died this past July. My situation was unique but sometimes there is a reason things happen and I am thankful I did get a phone call.

- mickeysgirl| 2 repliesI just got a call from girl named Lisa Cohn X4090. She asked if I was the person handling my deceased step daughters affairs. I have not seen that girl in about 25 years. I have nothing to do with handling anything for her. She said sorry to bother you, I will take you off the list. She would not answer any of my questions.
I have NO IDEA how she even got my home phone number since I am remarried, living in a different area and never gave step daughter any info since her fathers death over 10 years ago. This sounds truly fishy to me.- Caller: Private Caller on caller ID

- Lucy| 1 replyGot a call from these jerks today. My mom passed away in January. We've sent her death certificate to every creditor and I thought most creditors write it off anyway? I think the most my mom owed was $6,000 to one of them. I thought they were legit, so I called and left a message telling them not to call my number again and that children of the deceased are not responsible for their debt. On the FAQ on their website they claim they are not a scam company and you can't believe everything you read on the Internet. LMAO!

- DanThis isn't really a scam. This is a "legitimate" debt collection attempt, in that they've purchased a written off debt from another company. Whether the company that sold it to them did so correctly is a different matter.
In my case, my mother passed away and they were calling to try to find some "authorized to speak about financial matters on behalf of the late <my mom>". Since I'm not involved in the handling of the estate, I told them that and they took me off of their contact list.
Apparently my sister, who is handling the estate details, called various creditors to inform them of my mom's death. They immediately wrote the debt off and sold it to a collection company.
As to how they managed to find me and my phone number, the various public records sources out there allow companies to rather easily "connect the dots" and get all sorts of information regarding relatives, addresses, phone numbers, etc.
So regardless what you feel about the practice, it's not a scam, and it's not bogus. If you want to stop the calls read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. In my case, since I'm not in any way liable for my mom's debt, all I had to do was tell them that, and they can't contact me again.
The same thing happened two years ago when my younger sister died. I got a call a few months later, I told them I didn't have any financial involvement or responsibility, and they never called back.
P.S. If you want a laugh, take a look at the AscensionPoint web site. Look how happy that woman is from getting a call from a debt collector! It must have made her day!- Caller: AscensionPoint Recovery Services

- Dan replies to LucyWhen a creditors "write it off", they typically sell that debt for pennies on the dollar to a collection agency. The original creditor recoups some of the loss, and the debt collector is gambling that they can collect at least more than they paid for the debt.
- Dan replies to kittenIf you tell them that you're not handling the estate of the relative, they're legally required to stop contacting you. If they don't stop, they're in violation of the law.
