They are using public records to locate anyone associated with the deceased to try to collect the debt...you'd be surprised at what can be pieced together from all of the information out there.

Since you told them you had nothing to do with the debt, they legally couldn't tell you anything about it, which is why they wouldn't answer any questions.

It's not a scam, it's a legitimate debt collection attempt.  They certainly have no way to know that you were unaware of the death, they just buy "deceased debt" from other creditors and try to collect on it.

If you look at their web site here: http://www.ascensionpoint.com/consumer-resources-for-debt-recovery/ it goes into exhaustive detail about who they are, why they are calling, the fact that you are not personally liable for the debt they are collecting, and what to do if you want them to stop calling.

This number called my step-son and left a message about my father who passed away recently. My step-son obviously has no blood relation or name similarity to my father. I suspect this 'company' (and I use that term lightly) uses public records to find the recently deceased, looks them up on social media to find their contacts, then goes back to public records to lookup those contacts' phone numbers. Or they have software that does all that for them.

Opportunistic vultures is what these people (another loosely used term) are. If they want to buy written-off debt for pennies on the dollar, than that's their risk. Don't harass people grieving the loss of a loved one!

Don't answer the phone, and/or turn the ringer off.  Keep record of every call from this place.   (time, phone number and date.)
I, like others, know what is owed to whom.   They have been calling my family member for a month.

Just got a letter from this company.  Guess they're sending letters now, not calling.  Phone # to call listed in letter was 9073, one digit off. This is really a dirty, cruel hoax to scare the crap out of someone who is grieving. How nice of them to offer their "condolences" before they try to take your money.  When I first saw it, I couldn't take a breath.  They're asking who the executor of my husband's estate is.  I couldn't figure out what bill we wouldn't have paid.  They're all paid and we've not gotten any letters saying it was being turned over to a collection agency.

It certainly is a scam.  It took two years for my husband to die of cancer.  I paid all of the bills.  We have no outstanding debt.  This is a scam and you must be a troll.

I am bad about checking my messages.  So I decided to check them this day and received a call her Janice @ Ascension Point ext 3711.  The call said reference my late friends name, so of course I quickly called back.  She wanted to know my relationship to her, and if I was the person handling her estate, ESTATE (smh). I said no, then she scuffled some paper and said she spoke to another person, and could not give me any more information.  I Goggled this company, found this was a scam and immediately called her family to warn them.  Why? Why are people so ready to prey on people in bereavement or still in mourning over their love ones or family members.  We are a sick nation and if God don't help us, we can't be helped.  BE WARE, and BE WARNED the eyes of the Lord is everywhere beholding the evil and the good.

Got a call from "Ascension Point", and like the other ones that received these calls, they did not want to tell me what this was about until I gave them more information.  I refused.  I had to ask the caller 3 times for his name and never did understand what it was.  Sounded like he had a mouthful of marbles

    Sickened by this
I received a call today from 888-806-9074 and they asked for the person in charge of the estate of someone who I don't know at all. They insisted that my number was listed as the number to contact. So I said well if that is the case they would have also given you a name to ask for. The response was silence (Cricket, Cricket, ) then they said OK we will remove your number. Not so bright !!! It's sickening to think that they would try to scam someone that has lost a loved one.

No, I'm not a troll.  I lost two relatives over the last two years (little sister and mother).  Both times I got a series of these calls, so I did some research about it.  I just wanted to post that here since people were so angry about "scammers" trying to prey on them in a difficult time.  I'm not saying that those sort of sleazeballs don't exist, just that this particular case isn't one of them.  There's no requirement that anyone send you a letter that a debt is being turned over to a collection agency, or anything about it at all.

It's really not a scam.  They legally can't give any details until you identify as someone who's authorized to deal with the financial matters of the deceased's estate.  This happened to me twice.  When my little sister died two years ago, I got 3 calls from different collectors, all using the same wording.  Since I wasn't involved (and had no desire to help them) I just said I wasn't responsible, and didn't know who was (all totally true, since she died intestate).  When my mom died in March, I got 7 calls from (again) 7 different companies.  I told them the same thing.  In each case, I never heard back from them again.

So I'm not trying to convince you of anything other than it isn't a scam, and that you're not being tricked.

Got this call yesterday asking who was handling the estate of my son in law. They did not even know the name of his wife and could not tell me how they even got my name. I immediately figured it was a scam and did not give out any personal info. Just took his name of Travis at ext. 4075 at 888 806 9074 and then told my daughter to watch for scammers.

Glad I found this site. Just got another message from 888 806-9074. Ascension Point Recovery, wanting me to call them back. Been through a brutal administration of my late brother's estate, including winning a contested bogus "will" hearing. Thought maybe that in the confusion I'd overlooked calling and cancelling his (Marathon Oil) card and notifying them of his death, etc; checked my records and indeed I did all the right things. And, if they claim I didn't, how the hell else did they get both my cell and unlisted landline phone numbers ??!!
Pretty obvious they're trying to avoid costs of going through the correct legal probate channels, hoping I'll just cut 'em a check to get them off my back. I'll bet my attorney will say they are S.O.L.

This is a scam. My father died four months ago and has no outstanding debts. Received a letter from these vultures asking to contact them if I'm the executor. No mention of any bills outstanding. Just phishing for info. I will not contact them. Bottom feeders.

Left message wanting to know who was handling my 'late husband's' financials?? Person sounded illiterate. I blocked the phone#, checked this site, which verified for me they are  UNCONSCIOUSNABLE scammers. My husband has NO unpaid bill or debt to be collected. What low-lifes looking for information that is none of their business. Report their numbers and name to any authority you feel is appropriate.
