    Hello everybody,

Thankyou for this blog, but i am like many visitors here and NOT much wiser.

My mobile has rang a couple of times with this number (we are all discussing)
yet it appears to ring for a miniscule time. I never got to answer it quik enough.

    1) Why would that be?....it's unusual, phones normally ring proper durations.

i am like many people in society and don't really like to answer 0800 numbers because
it can be robots and adverts in metropolis city areas...cold callers. I have had several
scams in my time arriving at my home landline from variuos bogus scammers. Some
concerned computers and scams regarding insurance for your PC gear. THere have been
other scams also. Yet my phone line contains TWO smart systems for filtering bogus
callers. THese systems have been on my line for years. STill does not stop some scammers.

Back to the subject of the blog here.

We all realize that in this day and age, giving over rather substantial personal info
on a phone or cell phone is a NO NO. Most things of that nature never even reach a phone
and are done with literature and post. I have been on welfare a long time and never ever ever
been contacted by telephone ...ever.  Yet , all of sudden, some number is calling me with
    some stealth also?  why?

My intuition tells me to read the web and blogs like this. But lets face it?....a scammer
can set up this blog in 10 minutes and even populate it with the exact info to position the
readers as "wobbling se-saws" of doubt about this 0800 number.
(i assure you i am NOT one of those scammers)

    Facts.

    1) no entry in this blog shows any legitimate web page link of any DWP web page that lists this
0800 number. It's not printed anywhere on an official web page of DWP.

    2) nobody on this blog has said, "i phoned directory enquiries and this 0800 thing
belongs to the DWP".  Have you actually checked for certain that this 0800 belongs
to the DWP?...how have you checked....... and is it "fool proof" checking.

    3) Many many posts in this blog say that the 0800 number has strange behaviuor
when answered....infact most writers here mention this fact. Why is this phone
number behaving so strange on LIVE activity?...

    4) Many people here seem to report they are quite unhappy with these phone calls
because their intuition tells them it's not right.....the "broad aspect" of what these calls
are tryoing to achieve.....WHY comply with something you feel is quite innapropriate?

    5) My local job center  (centrally based LARGE offices) explicity states they do not know "anything" about this telephone number and it's not registered with them or listed under any DWP literature. THey also say no reasons exist that the DWP would have needed to contact me.....nothing in any notes or such like.

The DWP also explicitly state that the DWP never uses 0800 numbers as "outgoing numbers" which they own and operate. THey only use 0800 to receive calls ....helping benefit claimers with free calls
them  for free.  THey never own and operate 0800 telephone numbers to conduct "outgoing"
calls from DWP offices. WHen you check this number with 1471 you see that the call has ORIGINATED
    from an 0800 number.

    6) Why are people reporting that the 0800 callers are disgruntled when people request a postal FORM.?...it's tit tat and rudimentary office procedure for thousands of offices in everyday life to use postage.....and particularly for a topic of this nature.

    7) WHy has nobody in this blog said, "i had some of these 0800 calls....i didn't feel right to give
personal information so requested a postal form. THe form has Arrived in post.......?

    8) WHy are people getting so many continuous calls from this 0800 number....in Stealth style?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the flip side.....what could indicate this phone call is harmless and genuine DWP?....the
    answer is nothing.

The 0800 caller only seems to know basic information about you...which they could have got
from a CV.....easily. THey don't actually quote any heavy information. THey only say "we have
access to heavier information, but first ,we need YOU to start giving out some heavier info"

Why is there a blog about this telephone number at all?.....millions of companies use 0800
every single day....but this particular number has disgruntled web blogs...

my advice?....THERE IS NOTHING CONCRETE TO INDICATE THESE 0800 PHONE CALLS
ARE GENUINE DWP CALLS (a blog is a 5 minute affair). THE CALLERS NEVER EVEN POINT CUSTOMERS TO A GENUINE WEB PAGE SHOWING THE PRINTED DWP 0800 PHONE NUMBER OR WHO THEY ARE............infact the callers seem reluctant to even reveal anything at all. THis is unusual because
in 30 years, thousands of companies have phoned me, and etiquette dictates they MUST at least
say who they are and who they are calling on behalf of.

WHy are the 0800 callers all in poor foreign accents?....that seems strange to me.

Until you yourself can personally unequivically verify that this 0800 number is a genuine DWP phone number....i would not consider the communication valid. You are also NOT doing anything wrong and in
some senses you are really helping by being cautious. THis is the general feel i get from talking around.

    Best Wishes

    V

Didn't answer it at all. As far as I'm aware, unless I have been told in person I'll be getting a call, I don't need to answer [***].
If it was anything that mattered from the DWP, they'd mail it.
    Don't sweat it.
    Continue your day.

As almost 100% of people reporting this number say it is DWP, why not ring your local DWP and ask them if a) this is one of their numbers and, b) if so, why does it sound like a fax machine and 'phone 9 times in 5 minutes.

Because the dialing machine got an answer from someone else first.    At least that's the usual explanation.

they don't leave a message as it is a security breach. if they left your national insurance number or any other details on the voicemail, they can't guarantee that it will reach you and not someone else

I got 2 calls from this number today on my mobile voice mail, they did not state who they was or what they wanted, the person who spoke the first time round sounded indian (alarm bells) i do not find it odd that when my sick note had not arrived by our totally useless postal service, so i took a duplicate to my local job centre to fax through to the dwp, they requested i put my mobile number on the sick note to get a text stating they had received it, no such text came through but they did receive it, the following day this strange number called, like others above i am continuously aware of scams namely by indian people from off shore call centres, i would not be surprised if the dwp is unwittingly giving out our info (the sick note has quiet a lot of details on it about someone) or they are directly doing so, but either way the dwp (esa) has no idea of this number or what department it belongs to, they was suppose to call me back but i guess they have forgotten my number all of a sudden! but from what i can see is the dwp and our government are in fact in breach of the data protection act as they are unwilling to change the laws and thus are being paid somewhere along the lines (hence why i do not answer to "unknown numbers" that bt often sale to anyone willing to buy numbers for a corrupt business) if i was you, i would contact the dwp and tell them to stop unknown partnerships that the dwp has set up to ask stupid questions when the forms are available or any notice of an incoming call!! as they will not be answered (calls probably coming from manchester which its inhabitancy seem to be completely indian speaking people).

All it takes is one dodgy indian person to see our details and pass them onto someone else (telemarketing makes a lot of money out of our personal info, how ever dodgy there measures are to obtains ones private info is endorsed by the government. i will also contact the dwp tomorrow as they are unwilling to contact me, and inform them i will be making a complaint to the ico who are already investigating the job centre over its very sad and improper construction of there job centre website that they lyingly make everyone join (you do not have to join the website under the data protection act) read the sites disclaimer "it will not be responsible for any damaged done to your computer or software while using there site" so don't use it!, the site in question is flawed to the hilt, its got loads of viruses and is hacked daily for private info and the job centre admit one in 3 jobs are fake so don't use there website, look for jobs the old fashioned way as the website will undoubtedly also try sending you on jobs outside london or the uk even.

Also for those unaware, the "job centre" is not a place to find work or be directed to a new job, that went out the window about 10 years ago, all they do is handle claimants wether new or old and demand you provide proof to your job search otherwise they could not careless about "YOU" actually thats been about the same since benefits started many years ago, to those told you are being supported by the tax payer, yes yourself, our government pays for our tax and national insurance contributions on our behalf so you can tell the inherently stupid idiots that your paying for yourself via your own taxes not others (if we did not pay tax we probably would be banned from voting like prisoners are) so you are paid to look for work (not to survive on or you be dead in a month on what they claim one can survive on, i do not even want to imagine who they got to live off £142 a fortnight to prove it is possible to survive on such an amount!!! maybe it was in the lowest priced supermarket in the country)……….

further to my above statement, i have discovered that the dwp does not make outgoing calls with a id of 0800 of any kind if it appears on your id display the dwp will use either a 0345 number or it will not show at all…

so i find it odd that the dap has your numbers on your account held with them, as my number was put on my sick note i have come to the conclusion that someone in the benefit office (not just one of them but looking at this number seems to be a lot) are unhappy with how much they are paid and are either taking the info by hand or taking a snapshot of the info from peoples sick notes, also i have never heard of the dap contacting someone to "review" there info is correct sounds like a fishing scam where they have taken the little info off your sick note and fish for the rest, this person or persons do not have full access to the computer accounts or we would all be inundated with scam calls, so on that note do not tell them a thing this number is a scam fishing for information, i am also requesting from esa to do a full investigation into the conduct of there employees as this is a serious breach of the data protection act! i will post up here my findings after i speak with stratford handling centre this morning….
