- HelenAm fuming - just discovered I have made five payments of 8.99 through my credit card which I paid for my laptop with at PC World. Have just had an argument when I called the number 0844 800 6080 as he said I would have signed a direct debit mandate. I said I hadn't because I didn't want cover and if I had, it would have been through my bank account and not my credit card! Called PC World in Basingstoke where I bought the laptop and ironically they cannot send me a copy of the mandate and I would have to collect it personally. Great given that I live in Essex! Am now back on the phone to my credit card to see if they can provide a copy of the mandate. It is disgusting and a severe breach of security if they can get away with this!
- kennethI remember the salesman saying that I could have 1 month free Whatever Happens insurance, through Mastercare, against any accidental damage, when I purchased my 53" plasma TV from Curry's. I thought it was a good idea, just in case I dropped it during the installation. He said I could cancel it after the free period if I didn't want it to continue. Needless to say, but I completely forgot about it until the payment appeared on my credit card and then I had to investigate what the payment was for. I found the people at Mastercare were easy to talk to and I am now in two minds about cancelling it or letting it continue.
- TedThis is a charge by Mastercare, an insurance company that is used by the Currys group. On my September accounts it appears as:
Product Support AG 0844 800 6080 and a deduction of £32
This is for an insurance on my TV that I pay annually.
They initially provided a list of phone numbers to be contacted depending on which equipment is being covered by the insurance.
Mastercare is apparently administered by Coverplan.
The Coverplan Customer Services number is 0870 600 1550 - TedHave just checked latest correspondece from Mastercare.

Dear Product Support AG,
In October I purchased an ex-display laptop from PC World in Coventry using my Egg credit card. Due to the laptop then failing a product check I was unable to take the laptop away so the transaction was canceled. Simple you might think? Unfortunately not. I now find a sum of £6.99 going missing from my credit card TWICE on 27th November. Research reveals that it is you lot taking it. I am little short of livid about this, as I am absolutely sure you would be too if someone made UNAUTHORISED withdrawals from your own credit card.
I will not provide card details here as this is not a secure email transaction. I do not have any reference number from the PC world transaction, as since I never took the laptop away technically I never owned it and the paperwork was canceled.
Please telephone me on (xxxxxxxxx) and we will make arrangements for you to cancel the transaction and refund the incorrect deductions. If I am unable to answer my phone please leave a voice message and I will respond as soon as reasonable. If I do not hear from you by the end of Friday 11th December 2009 I will contact the Financial Services Ombudsman and the Police as necessary.
Best Regards,

Dear Customer
This email address is no longer in use – we are unable to respond to mails to this address. Please contact the relevant area of the TechGuys to discuss your question with us. - john smithi to was victim this scam i bought a lap-top pc from currys in Newry,i was asked if i wanted insurance which i replied a defenite no no.The overweight sales consultant told me i could have 3 months free just sign and then it would be cancelled,to my horror 6.99 was detucted from my credit card account 3 months later rang the store to complain it was like talking to a [***],i rang the head office complained cancelled the insurance, and told them to save the scam for old ladies, dont buy anything from curries or pc world be warned.
- timsterhamsterHappy outcome. I phoned the tech guys today on 08448006080, explained my situation and the very helpful person on the other end was able to cancel the direct debit and made arrangements to refund the one-month I had been charged. In view of my own experience I really can't fault the way my problem was quickly sorted as soon as I made them aware. It seems communication is the key.
- jim pHaving repeated sum of 9.99 being taken from my card for more than 6 months. I have never had insurance from Currys or PC World or signed for any such thing as it is a blatant rip off from the outset even if you do want it. This is going on watch dog!
This is worse than Madoff.
Absolutely livid is an understatement... - AlexApparently we must get together and take them to court for devious money bleeding from our credit cards. Any takers?
- RickyBought a new laptop from PC World with a free months support and the option to take up a paid policy. Money taken without me taking up the policy from the card I used to buy the laptop. Will be telephoning them in the morning!!!!
- KayI have had my credit card debited for 4.99 each month for months now, finally got access to my statements today and found this charge, googled it and ended up here. I bought a pc ages ago from PC world (can't even remember when!) and we always refuse the product insurance as it is usually such a rip off. I called my credit card company and got the same answer as above - the apparent agreement was with the retailer and they can't cancel it, frustratingly I will have to wait until tomorrow to contact pc world
- ozzie boyI have just read a few comments and feel like leaving my own to thank you guys for the info that will now help me to stop this fraudulent direct debit. I arrived back to my spectacular country of Australia in Aug 2008 and usually skim through my statements when I recieve them. Turns out these [***] have been billing me for a year and a half. I did buy a laptop from CURRY'S, I did not purchase product support and also remember them asking me if I would like to. I could almost guarantee that if one of us got some legal advice on this we would be told the company has been acting fraudulently for years and don't have any rite to one cent of our money. I would advise this to someone living in the u.k and would look into further myself if I was there. Don't let these [***] keep ripping off innocent hard working people. All the best in sorting it out. Stuart.

- ShaymaI just discovered that a payment of £4.49 has been taken from my credit card for the last 4 months - the phone number on my statemnt is 0844 800 6080. This was not authorised by me.
- Jennifer WillansCan someone please tell me why these amounts (almost £15!)have been taken off my visa card without my permission. This is fraud surely.
13 Dec 09 0844 800 6080 5.99
17 Dec 09 0844 800 6080 1.99
17 Dec 09 0844 800 6080 6.99 - DeepakEven I have faced this issue after buying a latop in Currys Digital at Cambridge UK. They seem to say that the support coverage is not mandatory but makes sure to swipe your card details and get the amount debited from the card. This is obviously a fraud/scam and ppl need to be aware of these type of sophesticated robberies.
- StevoI just cancelled my cover over the phone (0844 561 4000). I bought a camera from Currys about 2 years ago and forgot to cancel the 1 month cover. As long as you have your 10 digit reference number you should be OK. I will let you know if the payments have stopped in a months time.
