- RosieThis is fraud!!!
I have had so many calls saying there is security breach on my bank account. I called back number and it goes through to an automatied option, I just hung up - phoned my bank directy to my bank and they said there was no notes on system of anyone from them trying to call and no bars or any restrictions on my account
DODGE!! - Angelic Friends| 1 replyIt is a genuine Alliance & Leicester - Santander call.
I got the call at work today and like everybody else I was wary, and originally put the phone down on the automated call and called the bank straight away. I was put through to the A & L Fraud Dept who after going through a few details of transactions on my account, most of which I knew and one that I didn't, told me that my debit card has been skimmed. With my blessing my card has been blocked so the skimmers can't use it.
Incidentally, when I got home tonight I had the same call so just to make sure I called A & L Fraud Dept again and they confirmed that the number is legitimate.
This call has resulted in me hanging on to my money. I would also say that as Alliance & Leicester are based in Leicester, where there is a large Asian community so it is not beyond the bounds of probability that your call will be dealt with by Asians.- Caller: Alliance & Leicester - Santander
- Angelic Friend replies to LMaybe you should know that Santander own Bradford & Bingley
- Ed ArnoldThis is definitely not a hoax!!!!!! I started getting the calls yesterday, and waited ages for a call agent to talk to me after confirming the transactions read out to me were not made by myself, eventually I was told they'd ring back later. Later on in the day (after panicking a bit!) I phoned Alliance and Leicester and got this stupid so and so who checked my account and told me there was nothing to worry about, that the calls were a mistake! Anyway today I had 6 automated calls from the same number and I've just called Alliance and Leicester to go mad at them about it. Eventually I was put through to the Fraud department who read out about a £1000 worth of transactions that I hadn't personally made!!!!!! They told me that my card had been cloned and they'd managed to block every transaction
Whatever you do don't ignore this voice message, it's serious and you need to call Alliance and Leicester and ask to be put through to the fraud department if the idiots in the main helpline call centre don't do it straight away for you.- Caller: Alliance and Leicester
- Mr D| 1 replyThis is a GENUINE NUMBER.
I also made a payment to a well known online catalogue store and apparently due to the amount of fraud A&L suffer via this sire they block unusual payments/
I pointed out that not many people will answer an automated call like theirs and they agreed but this is their system!
Call the customer service number and they will transfer you through otherwise you will have a block on your account until you verify the payment.
Glad we're all on our guard though.....................!- Caller: A&L
- Customer replies to Mr DI was advised this morning that the number was not fomr the A&L Fraud department and that there were no Fraud markers on my account
- llhjThis is genuine - I was also skeptical but rang the A&L Customer Services who transferred me through to the Fraud Department & they confirmed the message and number. They'd blocked my account due to a transaction made this morning from the other end of the country. All credit to them, that's some fast fraud detection! I knew what it was though - all legit. But yes, don't ignore the call. Both for fraud and embarrassment reasons if you try to buy anything with your card and it comes back declined!
- Caller: Alliance & Leicester
- SonyaI had an automated voicemail on Saturday evening from this number. Tried my card in the nearest cash point and it had been blocked. Called A+L Sunday morning, they said it was to do with a paypal transaction and were no help, had to check said transaction and confirm it was me. I confirmed I had used my paypal account but not for money from my actual bank account. They didn't seem to listen and put me through to the department to unblock my card, they said that they hadn't placed a block on my card and there was a payment for £1.53 from some American company and £1 from paypal, both of which weren't done by me. Getting a new card now, second time in a year I have been subject to this. A+L are rubbish, probably going to change banks. Whoever had my details managed to block my card and I think they got my details from hacking paypal accounts. This is a hoax, they continued to call me both on my mobile and home line on Sunday, after I had contacted A+L.
- Charlottie_cI also received this call but it was after I had attempted to make a payment on paypal to the US. So I called the 0116 number I found on here and was put through to the fraud department, who said the only reason my card had been blocked was because of this paypal payment. As I was aware of this payment and that was the only 'suspicious activity' on my account my card was unblocked. I personally don't believe this is a scam but as many people have already said I prefer to find a number to call them on myself.
Also as a previous post said, Bradford and Bingley are now part of Santander!!- Caller: A&L
- A<his number is genuine however phone back on the A&L phoneback number and ask for the Fraud department - my card was cloned
- Caller: A&L
- Patch64This is a legit number. My debit card was declined at a cash machine yesterday lunchtime and so I called A&L via their normal customer service line and they advise they had put a block on my card due to some unusual debits made against my account. After going through each entry everything was legit and so they unblocked my card. When I got home last night I had 7 missed calls from fraud department trying to get hold of me. Best advice if you are worried is to call them through the customer service number (0844 800 9000) and ask for the fraud dept.
- random searcher| 1 replyThis is legit, just called the fraud team a few mins ago (Directed through from the main 0844 number after receiving a voice mail naming me personally)
they asked me for my card exp date and security code on the back and to confirm security details etc.
then the bloke went through my latest transactions to check i was aware of them all. they reactivated my card instantly and just now i have ordered a chinese take away with no problem
apparently it was Flagged after i used my card to pay for access to my credit rating on equifax (received the automated call 10mins after processing payment)
Mave- Caller: A&L - fraud team
- DavidIt's legit, but how awesomely incompentent is this bank that its "fraud" squad phones you from a number that is neither listed anywhere on their website nor is known to exist by half their staff.
