This is Fraud, anyone on this link who is telling you it isn't, they are the FRAUDSTERS. They have so far rang my mobile, my parents and my work number trying to get me to play ball it's really annoying. I rang Alliance and Leicester direct and they said the number is nothing to do with them and it is a SCAM. Do not be fooled by anyone on this link who says otherwise. Hang the call up immediately.

This is A SCAM. I couldn't put it any more plain and simple for you. Stop and think for yourself - no bank would report a fraud with an automated voice message for heavens sake! Do some Googling and you'll find the same number is used for 'Barclays Fraud Service' and god knows how many others. Do not give any of your details to them whatsoever. Believe those who say this is genuine on here at your own cost - nothing stopping a scammer posting on here is there?

Hey everyone. Gotta love the conspiracy theorists on here. I know there's some dodgy people out there, but ease up of the cynicism. Everyone who says it's not a scam is a scammer? Haha. This website was set up to help people make informed decisions - not pigeon hole trustworthy people trying to be helpful........ANYWAY :) Had this number call me earlier. I'm very dubious about this sort of thing - for all the right reasons like everyone else (especially as I overheard someone with the exact same situation in the bank only this morning!), but called them back on the other customer service number - from the A&L website! It was them calling and my card has now been cancelled. They went through my transactions and I had some dodgy attempts to take funds from some blackberry/iPhone software company. Quite amusing as I only have 90p in my account, but probably less and less humours the more money you have.

This certainly is Alliance & Leicester anti-fraud department (soon to be Santander anti-fraud, no doubt).

After I made a mistake with my postcode when placing an Amazon order, I got an automated message from this number.

@UnHappy - it can take a couple of days before a payment appears on your online banking account, plus, A&L will notify you of "suspicious activity" on your account even if the payment was declined.

@Reg ("The only thing that links my name, my having an alliance and leicester account and that phone number is my details held with alliance and leicester themselves.")....yeah, and that's why they contacted you using _that_ number. Jesus.

    Ta.

I have recieved numerous calls from thsi number this morning to my mobile phone.
they left a voicemail saying they were Alliance & Leicester Fraud Dept and could i call back as soon as possible. I didn't!!
It sounds very professional : "this is a message for (full name mentioned) please call the A & L fraud Dept ASAP"

I waited until i reached work and phoned the usual contact number for A & L (now Santander), to see if there was a problem with my account.
THEY KNEW NOTHING AND THE NUMBER IS NOTHING TO DO WITH A&L OR SANTANDER - ITS A HOAX!!
My debit card has been cancelled and a new one issued, the bank feel that they may have got my details from card somehow and need further info to be able to use it.

If you've had a call like this inform as many people as possible it's a scam!!

Thats whats the fraudsters want - they want you to call back and give the security number on the back then start using it when your least expecting it.
    THIS IS NOT A&L/ SANTANDER/ BRADFOR AND BINGLEY - IT'S A HOAX!!

CUSTOMER SERVICES ASSURED ME THE NUMBER IS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM AT ALL.
Dont phone this number or give personal details - banks will ask security question about your account - not the card. if they do ask for car info it will be the last 4 digits on front only!!

Iif you have given info out - i'd cancel card asap!!

I have had 2 calls from 08453512290 and get a recorded message saying they were Alliance & Leicester and asking me to press any button to continue. I press 'off'. But how do I get rid of them for good?

Had a call from these normally sceptical about these thing but answered the house phone and it was automatic listed everything I had paid for and just wanted me to press a number if it was correct. Genuinely A & L. All started as ordered form Asda and they took the main payment then took 2 little payments out after for things they missed from the shopping? anyway it sent flags to A & L fraud department as it was lots of payments in a short period of time.

It is legit, but we were very very sceptical too!

My mum had an automated voicemail from this number and returning it asked her to confirm her DOB from a list.  She hung up and rang Santander on the number on the statement and spoke to an advisor who put her through to the fraud department.

They went through all her recent transactions and then said that the "suspicious transaction" was her buying 3 books from 2 different Amazon Marketplace sellers in one go!  It was the first time she'd bought Marketplace items together, although surely it's really just *one* charge of £x to Amazon!  I'm puzzled why it was flagged as suspicious.  The call came less than 20 minutes after the transaction was made.

Hopefully it *is* that rather than a truly-suspicious transaction which has been overlooked by them!

It's very reassuring that the system is looking out for customers, if a little over-zealous as it turned out!

It is genuine; we had 3 calls and were suspicious so I rang Santander and they told me it really was a call from the fraud department. I pointed out that as our account has now been taken over by Santander, the automated call saying it was from Alliance & Leicester made it seem suspicious.

Anyway, it turned out that some transactions had been flagged up; mostly Amazon & Paypal. Of course spending money with Amazon at this time of year is deeply suspicious! It turned out that my card had been blocked, they have told me they have unblocked it but I haven't checked it yet.

I dread to think how much the phone call to the bank has cost us; an 0845, number and it took them a good 10 minutes to sort it all out. Not that they would be wanting to make a profit from blocking our cards for no reason of course!

It is from Santander - I've just rang myself on the freebie 'saynoto0870' customer service number 0116 201 1000 and they confirmed it was their fraud department. They pull numbers up of their customers and basically do random spot checks on people's accounts to check for fraudulent transactions - especially at this time of year with increased internet shopping activity. They read out the last few transactions on my account and asked me to confirm that these were legitimate (which they were). Just because they ring, it doesn't mean you have been the victim of fraud. They're just checking.

I received a call from this number this morning and checked with Alliance & Leicester who confirmed that it was not one of theirs. I would suspect that if there was an issue of fraud on your account you would receive a personal call not some random automated message.

    Hi

Got 8 calls from this number with my full name in automated message.I went to my branch and they said it was fraudulent and they are aware of it. However I never give my mobile number for anything and only the bank records have which makes me think A & L have compromised security internally. They need to sort this out .....

You are lying. I expect you are one of the people behind this scam.

Don't be fooled, people: if your bank has any legitimate concern about fraud they will contact you securely, either by telling you to log on to a secure messaging service or by writing to you. A phone call is not secure, especially if they are asking *you* for information.

As we say at TWOP: take control, or be controlled.

I had 2 calls from this number this morning. Was dubious as the call was automated and had my name and then hung up when it asked me to press any key. Rang A&L who went through security questions with me and transactions from the past few days and looks like someone was hoping to buy their girlfriend a nice engagement ring with my money this morning!!!
Anyway told me there had been 5 other transactions attempted and A&L blocked them.
This isnt a hoax, if you get the call, ring the 08448009000 number!!!
