- DenisI keep getting calls from these peole. I do not have a Santander Account notr have I an account with any associated company. If they call enough people they will eventually get a Santander/A&L/Bradford and Bingley customer. Fraud departments will have a person call you directly, not leave a message on a phone which can be picked up by anyone. If you have an issue with a Santander account call Santander direct. Do not give your account details over the phone to anyone who contacts you in this manner.
- Caller: Claimed to be Santander

Re some of the earlier comments, girl told me they would not leave the account number as they would not know who might hear the message- Caller: Santander

- JasonThis is a legit fraud telephone call from Alliance and Leicester, it's usually randomly to check you're the person buying products on the internet and not someone with your card details.
- Caller: Alliance and Leicester
- RuthI had a call from this number claiming to be from Alliance and Leicester/Santander. I stupidly called them back and was faced with an automated voice who asked me to key in my card number. I immediately hung up, my only regret is calling them back in the first place. I would never give out my personal details to anyone who called me.
- Caller: Santander/ Alliance and Leicester
- melits definitely genuine although i did phone the customer services number for santander rather than number given, turns out someones using my card number to go internet shopping so a big thanks to santander fraud dept for their swift action

- Santander EmployeeHi... I work at a branch of Santander, a customer came in to verify If this call / text message was a scam.
After checking the number and going through a number of internal security checks, It was actually a genuine number of the Santander fraud dept. The customer also conveniently forgot to tell me that she had tried to use the card and got declined twice, just a few minutes before receiving this message.- Caller: Santander
- RickI'm confused now (reading all the previous comments)whether the number is genuine or not. I thought NOT, and when I googled Santander customer services and got through to a GENUINE advisor from their fraud department, I was advised that it was NOT a call from Santander. But yet quite a lot of people are saying that they have been told by Santander that it IS a genuine call from them!!
My circumstances are that I retrieved an ansafone message with an automated voice saying "hello this is an important fraud prevention message for ...(my name!)... thank you". There was nothing further, or any number to call back, but I retrieved the number (0845 351 2290) from the received calls display and called it. That's when the automated voice revealed it was apparently from Santander. I DO hold a crtedit card account with them, but as I am in an I.V.A., the card is log since destroyed, and the account is managed by a debt management compnay. So I know nobody has the physical card itslef. Howver, the automated voice asked me to provide confirmation of several facts, eg my date of birth and year, offering four different alternatives. I deliberately confirmed a WRONG date to see what would happen, and the message recognised the erro, and asked me again. So I confirmed the RIGHT D.O.B., and it then proceeded to tell me if I was aware that there had been a transaction today (6/6/11)
of 5.13 on my DEBIT card (it was actually a CREDIT CARD!). By then I was pretty confident this was a scam so I hung up and contacted the real Santander, who confirmed it was not genuine.
So HOW did these scammers know my phone number, name and date of birth? And I still say the were scammers, and anyone still insisting it's a real Santander fraud service is talking out of their [***]!- Caller: Santander
- DANI'm always suspicious of random numbers calling my mobile but i can confirm this is a genuine number for the fraud department of alliance and leicester. I had been issued with a new card and a few days later when i went to make a transaction it was blocked as i hadn't used it prior and i was purchasing from a potentially unsecure website. They called me on this number but i didn't answer and rang A&L customer services who confirmed it was genuine and put me through to them.
So i would advise if you do have missed calls from this number to ring them as it could be important as a block was put on my card until the issue was resolved.
Regards,
Dan- Caller: ALLIANCE AND LEICESTER
- BradMust be a fraudster! They have repeatedly been ringing me leaving messages either claiming to be A&L or completely blank. Not called them back on their number but rang A&L and they said there's no problems with my account.
Hoping to ignore and they will go away but it's been a while now. If it doesn't stop soon i'll contact the police and pursue harrassment. - JayThis is a genuine number from Santander. It is an automated message to authorise a transaction that may have been blocked. This is caused by a website you are using your card on being compromised in the past. If in doubt phone your bank and ask for fraud department. Simples!!!
- Caller: Santander
- JayPLEASE NOTE. This is not a fraudster unlike some people are reporting. Stop mis-informing people. It is santanders fraud department want authorisation to a transaction you have made on a website that has been compromised in the past.

- jdw| 1 replyI got an automated call from this number stating it was Santander fraud department, almost instantly after trying to make an on-line transaction which was blocked by the card company. I have recently been purchasing an unusually high number of items on-line (for me anyway), the call asked me to confirm DoB and then listed transactions on my account, they were all accurate transactions.
It seems that it is a genuine call, they could not have known about the transactions otherwise, nor could they have blocked the payment. They obviously singled me out because of my recent purchase history looking a bit suspicious. They also never asked for any information aside from DoB, which a fraudster could easily get hold of anyway.
If anything I'm glad to have received the call, as it shows that the banks are keeping a look out for potential fraud. Bear in mind that Santander own a number of banks including Alliance and Leicester, and I think Bradford and Bingly, so even if you don't have a Santander card (I've got A and L) they are still your bank.- Caller: Santander
- patch64 replies to jdwThis is a genuine number. I get a call from them almost every month around payday when I go online and start paying all my bills. It was an automated voice at first that asked me to input the telephone number from where their call came to. They then gave me three possible DOB's for myself and asked me to confirm if any of them were my correct DOB. None of them were and I indicated this by pressing a corresponding number from a list I was given. I was then put through to a real person in their fraud dept who wanted me to confirm if I had actually authorised some debit card payments on my account. They were all legit payments by me so they unblocked my card. At no stage was I asked for personal information (apart from confirming my name and address to the real person) or account numbers. I am very glad that they are being diligent although can be slightly annoying when they put a block on your card. Better that than someone else spending all my money.
- nicolethis is a scam , they want u to call them back and give your bank details for fraud prevention but realy they are commiting fraud as when they get your details they will clone your card
- Caller: fraud prevention / fraud committers!!!

- Sam replies to tanyaI just received the text but called the usual customer service to check and although the customer service person couldn't see anything untoward on my account she passed me to the security team and someone had tried to use my card this evening so they have blocked my card. Good work. However, not so great I have to wait ten days for a new one. Definitely call but call the usual number just to be safe.
