Thankfully she's savvy enough on a pc not to befooled,- Caller: sanatder
- JamesGenuine Santander message. I failed my Visa authentication on an online purchase and received this message almost instantly. Followed the system through and spoke to a member of staff. Good response, it's just a shame that they fleece mobile users with an 0845 number.

- Great King RatI recieved a number of calls from this number, which I did not answer as I didn't recognise it. Later, I contacted Santander through the Secure Messaging portal of my Online Banking page and recieved the following reply:
"We are here to give you peace of mind with your finances and that includes when you're spending your money.
We monitor your account and raise the alarm if we spot any suspicious transactions.
So, if we see any unusual spending patterns, like a burst of late night activity, our anti fraud computer will call you and leave a message asking you to confirm the transactions.
If you don't recognise it, you will be put straight through to one of our advisors.
Please note that, to protect your money, some unusual transactions may be declined or referred until we can contact you.
Our automated service will never ask you to reveal your passcodes, card expiry date or card security number.
I hope this information is useful and if you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via Secure Messaging or to ring my colleagues on 0845 9724724, Monday to Saturday 7am to 11pm and Sunday 8am to 10pm.

- KevinI got a message saying i had a problem with my account, then an automated call on my mobile then just as I canceled the call another to my house phone. I contacted Santander via a number on there website. They gave me the number of there fraud investigation which was 08456038562. It turns out a website which I had a subscription on was trying to renew it using an old credit card which was out of date. And santander had been trying to contact me regarding it.
- Caller: Santander
- old&gullibleReceived ext to mobile asking me to call this number from Santander. Rang a number on their website instead, to find that they HAD tried to get in contact as my debit card had been cloned! So if they call and you have an account it may be worth you checking with them, even if you don't use this number. Saved me about £300.00 - or could have been more if I hadn't called them. :-)
- Caller: Santander Fraud dept

- Tanya replies to bfcLegitimate!
- Ted| 2 repliesHas 2 automated calls from this number saying Santander fraud dept and hung up on both.
Genuine or not, what about the statements from banks that they do not make such automated calls that ask for details.
I think the banks need to stick to what they say and if they need to speak to someone they should actually do that in person, not by automation, after all they can afford to pay such high bonuses, why not use some of that money on proper customer service by REAL people! - John replies to Ted| 1 replyThe number is genuine,it belongs to Santander fraud department,i called it this morning, some one trying to take money from my account.
- mrs smith replies to JohnI had an automated message yesterday on my mobile, I hung up, a few minutes later I had a text message. When I got home I did a 1471 and I'd had a missed call from them. I phoned Santander today and I can confirm it is genuine.
- Scott Stevens| 1 replyMy dad - had this call - they said they were Santander., asked for his card no, which he refused to say, and gave him a PIN no - 517 , as it happens.. He thought it was suspicious - he REALLY does have a Santander account.... but thought it odd as he doesnt buy much online, and doesnt' go abroad etc - he's reported it to Santander, who haven't replied yet
- Caller: "santander"
- Ian replies to Scott StevensThis is a genuine Santander number used by their fraud department. Card accounts are monitored and any unusual payment flags up and calls you. If this happens you will find your card is blocked until you contact them. A transaction made online is the usual problem, if you don't use your card a lot there is more chance of this happening. If you don't want to call back on the number given use the number given on the website, if not your card will be blocked and you won't know until trying to use it again.
- CarrieI've had several calls to my landline & mobile each time with an automated message saying they were from Santander fraud department and to enter a pin that they sent via text. I rang my bank who confirmed that it was not them and that they do not contact customer via an automated service and that there is no issue with my account!!! This number has now been reported. Do not respond to any pin code or press any keys on your phone as this will connect you to whoever is trying to scam you. So bloody annoying as the calls are relentless
- Caller: Allegedly Santander Fraud Department
- Satisfied from SurreyI also had two calls in quick succession followed by a text with 3-digit code and contact (0845) number.
Turned out to be completely bona fide (though I rang back from another number and answered the automated questions).
Mine was regarding 2 completely legitimate failed attempts (due to POS machine not working) to take a Santander debit card payment over the phone about 30 minutes beforehand.
Somewhat relieved if a little concerned initially.- Caller: Santander
