Agreed, I had the same, they called the house number, and my mobile. Left a voicemail and text message to call them back.

    The caller is legitimate.

If you have received an email, phone call or letter from someone purporting to be from Santander, and you doubt its authenticity, please send details to us at phishing@santander.co.uk

We are grateful to all customers who forward us these emails.  We investigate all emails we receive, though are not always able to respond directly to them.

The emails are then made available to our colleagues who liaise with the various law enforcement agencies and ISPs.

I've received an email from Santander with details about money held on my behalf, what should I do?

An email alleging to be from a Santander Bank Manager is currently in circulation. It is apparently trying to give the recipient access to a large sum of money that is currently deposited in an account of someone you have never heard of, who has passed away. If you respond to this you will be requested to divulge your account details, and even give them 'administration' funds up front. Do not disclose any information.

If you have a Santander account and think you may have revealed your details in any way, please call us on 0845 600 4388, (dial 00 44 1908 238 013 from abroad) - we're open Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 11pm, and Sunday, from 9am to 9pm. If you bank elsewhere and have disclosed information please get in contact with them.

For more information on these scams visit:  http://www.met.police.uk/fraudalert/419.htm (Opens in a new window). Please note, Santander cannot be held responsible for information displayed on other websites.

Definitely legitimate...  Was trying to make a payment online, got the expiry date wrong (brain fade over 2013/2015) and this number rang 5 minutes later. I missed the call so googled here and rang Santander back and it was legitimate - I'd been in France for two weeks so had a whole series of foreign transactions followed by this attempt with a wrong expiry date for which they blocked the card.

Genuine Santander fraud line protection. You will get an automated voice reporting an unusual or possible unauthorised transaction.

I just made an online payment to a legitimate site that I seldom use and their system kicked in within seconds. It will automatically detect any usual buying patterns and will want to confirm you made the transaction before authorising it.

Anyone writing "do not answer" is sadly mistaken. It is calling for a reason. Ignore at your peril as it will prevent the transaction and possibly block your card and online log-in for your protection.

I had this number ring my landline and my mobile and leave messages. I would never ring it so checked account online and saw nothing. I rang Santander and they confirmed a fraudulent ttempt to take money from my account but they had already intervened. My card has now been stopped. It must be a legitimate number after all.

This is Santander's fraud prevention line for sure. The messaging system is deeply inept, asks for stuff you would rather not give (although is secure when you listen to it) and prone to make you think the world has stolen your ID but it is real and is worth responding to (but do not expect quick answer !)

In the end I found this was a lagitamte number. . .safe to ring

I got a automated voicemail from this number and a text mesage saying it was the fraud department of Santander and to ring them. . . I went onto the Santander website and rang the number on their website for fraud (which did not match up with the number calling) I spoke to a girl on the phone who said there was a recent transaction which was highlighted to their fraud department, and the number which rang was also their department. She transfered me to them. . .and a transaction of £280 to pay Gas was tried and decilined on my card. . .I did not do make transaction. . .My card has been stopped and they are now sending me a new one.

So if u still do not want to ring this number direct, go onto their website and ring the number advertise and ask. I'm very glad I did.
