    This number is GENUINE
I had a text message with my name on it and a phone number and said it was from SANTANDER as the sender (on a IPhone) I ignored the text message at first then recieved a call from a automated system a couple of hours later saying it was SANTANDER FRAUD dept and gave me a option to choose my date of birth (DOB) from a list given and press the corrospending number then to type in the day, I was then given a list of transactions which I did know about then I was transfered to a agent to take the temp block off my card. I hung up at this stage and called my bank direct  (0844 800 9000) and they confirmed that it IS santander and then procceeded to call them themselfs and enquire about the text message, they came back to me after a short while and asked for my permission to be transferred to the FD which I agreeded to and the person I spoke at the FD told me why I had recieved the text message and asked if they was my transcations which were in question and told me who they was from.

    Rich replies to Sil3ntn0ise
Yes I believe it is a real number too.
I had a couple of transactions cancelled by card - I put a bet on the tennis and it was the first time I used online betting so it looked like an 'odd' transaction to A&L
Always Call them back if you have any suspicions, that way yiu can be sure you are speaking to the bank.

Just had a call from this number,(08453 512290) asking me to press any number to continue,  I hung up suspecting a scam, went online to this site and it looks like I was right.

Why do BT let these sort of things happen?

This is real. If you don't chose a birth date you actually get through to a real person who gives you the option to call from a branch....which I did. They are just monitoring transactions.

This number is a scam!! Went into santander (a+l) as this number called me 3 times in the last 2 days.. The man said that this number is a scam number and that santanders  policy means that they would never text or use a automated voice to call there customers.. DO NOT GIVE ANY DETAILES to this number!

Just a transaction checker for Santander. It is genuine. I get them after I make large purchases on my debit card, usually to check that I have made the purchases.

had a automated call from this no earlier, didn't ring the no back but phoned A&L fraud dept. The cahp had NEVER heard of the num and not record of alledged fraudulent transaction existed on my account!

He advised me not to ring the number as they will try to use it to get other details to actually try to rob me!

I had a voicemail from this number, called A&L customer services and they confirmed it was them and it is an automatic service to query any suspicious transactions. Their fraud team told me the transaction which led to the call and it wasn't me, it was to some flower company in China! So if you get a call from this number call A&L, they will probably have already blocked your card to prevent further transactions so you will need to contact them anyway.

A genuine number. Santander's fraud line. I got a call on my mobile and a landline and a text to my mobile. I phoned it back and it's an automated system to begin with. It asks you to confirm your date of birth, you do not have to supply any information it doesn't already know. You are then asked to listen to the last 5 transactions charged to your account, if there are any you don't recognise, you are transferred to an actual person, with a pulse, who will again confirm the last five transactions.

It's not a scam. It's your bank and could save you from having actual scammers from stealing your money.

It is genuine. I signed up to Tesco mobile and it appears Tesco do tests of debit and credit cards. Santander/Alliance spotted the odd transactions and needed to verify they were genuine.
Amazingly efficient at Alliance. Very impressed.

This is a genuine call from Alliance and Leicester/Santander. The banks had declined some fraudulent payments and the card declined the next time we tried to use it.

    They left automated messages.

It's a shame that the banks don't do more to advertise these numbers to their customers.

I was called from this number, receiving the same automated voice, so read everyone's reviews on here and decided to call A&L. The ran through some transactions that were flagged up on their systems as out of the ordinary for my spending pattern. 2 were correct and 3 were not me. Someone was buying 02 phone credit using my card and making very small payments to a company in America, so my card is now cancelled and I'm getting a new one and having the money refunded.

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THE CALL, IT IS GENUINE!

Have had 2 calls from this number yesterday. Confusing thing is that I closed my A & L account in July because Santander are so awful. Didn't want to call the number provided on the automated message so used the local one on here but they close at 5pm so called to 0500 number they give which is open until 11pm. Explained the above to the guy, went through some security stuff and gave the number that had been calling me. Confirmed it is a santander number but wouldn't confirm my account because couldn't tell him the last amount debited from the account! It was JULY!!!!! Confirmed the account closed so said how can my account be used for fraud if its closed!!!??? Now have to travel to my nearest branch!!!!! Arghhhhhh
