- EvilJonnyThis call was genuine, I didn't ring back on the number on the automated line I called the main Customer services number who confirmed it was real. They put me through to the fraud department who confirmed some payments and read out some payments made on my account, there were fraudulent ones so my card has been canceled.
Whether you believe the call or not just phone the main customer services number to be sure.- Caller: Alliance and Leicester/Santander
- P HickmanCalled numerous times by an automated message claiming to be A&L fraud dept. This is legitimate - though I refuse to do anything automated over the phone. It looks like the Santander fraud is a bit more picky than A&L.
I called A&L direct (08448009000) and indeed a few transactions from earlier that day on the internet [I made 3 individual transactions to Travelodge] were blocked... my card had a block placed on it automatically.
A little inconvenient yes, but I sure am happy to know a system does exist to monitor and track usage as looking back in hindsight those transactions sure would look suspicious (3 transactions in a matter of 10 mins).
Direct phone line to A&L fraud dept = 0844 5619736.... remove the block immediately and Travelodge payments made. I also sugested that the automated system was removed and a simple message stating "block put on account for suspected fraud - please call A&L" may be more customer friendly!- Caller: A&L
- fedupwiththesecallsThis number is NOT Alliance & Leicester. I got a recorded message on my mobile number which I have had for over 5 years asking in an automated fashion to speak with some woman whom I've never heard of. I selected the voice prompt option to make her contactable on another number which I gave as 07700900008. This was to try to divert the automated cals to another number away from mine.
I strongly suggest that everyone who reads this post simply waits until they get called back again and select the option to make the person they are trying to contact reachable on any mobile number that is between 07799-900000 to 07700-999999 as all of these numbers are reserved for use in TV drama and by diverting these nuisanace calls to a number such as 07700-900008 for example, you will not only be getting rid of the calls but these fraudsters will have their machines dialling mobile numbers that simply do not exist. Good enough for them. - Big StevieIts the fraud dept! Just call it!
- hayleythis message IS real! i rang them 10 minutes ago, ring 0845 765 4321 and press option 4 and then the option to speak to the branch, then ask to be put through to the fraud line. the guy checked all the transactions i had done recently and was very helpful. no fraud on my card, just checking up on a purchase that i had never done before, and that my card didnt recognise. ring them, they will re-set your card and you will stop getting the calls.
- Jon KendalThis is the Alliance and Leicester, or Santander, card fraud department. They are calling because they want to check if the recent spending on your card has been authorised by you.
- Caller: Alliance and Leicester
- Bathsheba replies to AndyI had the same response from A&L with the comment that if it were genuine then it would have given an account number?? When did any bank give you a account number it's usually the other way around! They really are bloody useless company and you can't get a hold of their customer service anyway unless it's during the working week for so many hours only!! Needless to say I have no account with them in the first place and judging by the runaround to get someone to talk to over the matter who would give some time to the problem; there is no way I would want an account with them!

- lisag88I have just received a call 0845 351 2290 which i ignored, then received a text saying "please contact Santander on 0845 351 2275 regarding a recent transaction". I have an Alliance & Leicester card but have never used this account so was thinking its a scam.
A payday loan company which are now on my Debt Management Plan tried taking some money from this account as my original card registered with them was cancelled. My A&L card was declined which is the reason for this call.
THIS CALL / TEXT IS GENUINE.
Hope this helps.- Caller: Santander
- Dojajust got from this number and it is A&L/Santander. I called 08000566066 and went through the options. Spoke to an adviser who went through my recent transactions. He then put me on hold and went to speak with the fraud dept. They had noticed some irregular spending over the past few days and wanted to confirm they weren't fraudulent.
It is definitely a genuine number. Do call them!!- Caller: Santander/Alliance-Leicester
- JinosThis really is Alliance & Leicester, it's the Fraud Department, they called me first on my mobile at 8.15am then the house phone at 11am. It's an automated call which gives your name spoken by a computer so sounds spooky! I'd made quite a few transactions on my card the night before online and they had put a block on my card until they could be sure it was me.
- Caller: Alliance & Leicester
- MartynThis is not a scam number. It is the Alliance+Leicester (Santander) fraud alert team. Sometimes transactions with American sites will cause automatic block on your debit card.
- Caller: A+L

- Kelyn replies to mrfixerI recieved a call this morning from 0845 351 2290 with what sounded like an automated message saying Fraud which I deleted. I then put the number in a web search which led me to this site.
I never call a number back unless I know who it is from, so I rang the Customer Services number on my statement. They asked the usual security checks and then I was transferred to someone in Fraud who too me through further checks, before confirming that my account needed checking regarding recent activity. So the call is genuine, but I would always go to a Customer Services No that I know is genuine.
Needless to add that all e mails purporting to come from banks are deleted. - Chris WrightI would just like to say that it is genuine from Santander as well. I recently bought something on Amazon and it seems that this transaction has caused a block on my acccount. It was only for a £3.79 book. Santander wanted to check because of this low amount it was a genuine transaction
- pamThis is definately geniune guys. We just called Santander (which was a completely different problem altoghter)! Anyway after much too-ing and fro-ing there had indeed been a block on our joint account! We got it sorted but you have to ask the question why a bank are calling you with computer automated messages regarding security on you account - its shocking! Who in there right mind would respond to a computer message especially in this day and age of scams! Santander...get your act together or we move taking all our custom elsewhere!
- Caller: santander
- WillieIamgetting regular calls from this no. 1950hrs on Sat 26/3/11 the most recent. I have never had or applied for an A&L account so beware!
- AnnAppears it is genuinly Santander - but I rang the normal customer services & they put me through. It appears there was what they considered a suspicious transaction (but it was genuine!). Just as well I rang as they had blocked my card !!!!
If I hadn't rung I might have gone into a shop & found the card declined.
So if you get a call make sure you contact them - if in doubt call the number on your statement- Caller: Santander
