- Chris BeechingI had the same scenario with my daughter's phone. We deliberately did not tell her what her number was, and if she wanted to text anyone she should ask for their number, put it in her contact/address book so that when a text came through she would know who had sent it, and whether it was OK to reply. She has NEVER has a text (as far as we can see) or sent a text to any of these short-code numbers, yet we have been hit for £90 this month on her bill. Orange say they can't do anything about it. Another fraudster in this area is Jamster. Beware! I'm not sure sending 'STOP' does work, as I have been caught in this way (only once) despite sending STOP to the number displayed. It's a real scam and OfCOM should really clamp down on it.
For the record, my daughter is a reall poppet and NOT underhand in any way, so I have no doubts about her integrity, and also, I don't think she'd know how to activate one of these premium (gutter) services.- Caller: Jamster

- Vera HallI have been receiving unsolicited messages now for two months Total Cost £40.00 vodafone not helpful at all about reimbursing me with any of the cost. I have not done anything with zingtone to warrant this. It's about time they were taken to task

- Greg replies to rowenaText stop to 88770. it stops it straight away. I also tried ringing the company but trust me, there is no way of getting your money back
- KTBeen receiving texts from 81002/zingtones for who knows how long. Upon realising I replied STOP to the message.
I then rang a company called PhonePayPlus who advised me to ring zintones and ask for a refund. I was VERY unsure of this and never believed I would get a refund, but I did. Within 5 days I received a cheque for the full amount.
I would advise anyone in a similar position to do the same.
Have also received no messages since :)- Caller: Zingtones

- ptThese scum are still at it .. my 10 yr old's mobile bleeped 3 times in under a minute then same thing again 6 minutes later. £9 of credit gone & we only topped up last night. This needs proper investigation to ensure that no-one else get ripped off.

- ptHave just gone onto 'Their' website & found customer services number. I have rung them & complained in the strongest way possible .. they tried to tell me that the Service was set-up a while ago!!! No it certainly wasn't. I impressed upon them that subscription is only available to 16yrs+ & that my child is only 10 therefore they are breaking their own T&C's. Was told subscription would be cancelled forthwith. I then said as nothing had been ordered or obtained that they had claimed £9.00 under false pretences. I have been assured that a cheque will be sent to me for the full amount. 2 more msgs have since come through stating that we are now unsubscribed. I will give them 5 working days to get the cheque to me or they will hear from me again.
For anyone else wishing to claim a refund here is the number
08452251808. It was option 7 to speak to advisor.
